She was buried in Onancock Cemetery. (NOTE: His full name was Richard Henry West, her son-in-law, having married her daughter Sally Walker about 1889, who was his second cousin. He was a great-grandson of Capt. Henry Parker (1767-1818) & his wife Agnes (288) West (1768-1839). In her will Agnes named a grand-daughter Lucinda Henry Parker. Based on the information he provided on Lucinda's death certificate, Lucinda was evidently the daughter of a deceased daughter Anna Parker, who may haver married a Parker.)2,9 |

Guy, widow of the late Major Guy, died February 17th, at the home of her daughter, Mr. Annie Smith, Harborton, VA, aged 92 years. She had been a useful and faithful member of the Baptist Church for many years. Funeral services were held Monday, February 19th at Harborton Baptist Church. Interment was in the Hollies Cemetery. She is survived by six children, Mrs. James Custis, Mrs. Annie Smith, Mrs. Kate Bonniwell, Mrs. Bettie Mister, and Mr. John W. Guy, of Harborton and Mrs. M.S. Harris of Baltimore, one sister Mrs. Alice M. Fulmer of Smithfield, and a brother, Capt. W.T. Mister, of Makemie Park.10 |

Mister, postmaster at Makemie Park, VA, dropped dead on the streets of Salisbury, MD, Tuesday afternoon, July 18th when stricken with apoplexy. Captain Mister was walking along the street with Dr. R.R. Nevitte, who had accompanied him there for treatment, when the stroke occured. The body was taken to the Professional Building where it was found that death had been instantaneous. Captain Mister was 78 years of age and was formerly of Lower Accomack. He was one of the most popular and widely known men int Upper Accomack, where he had made his home for a number of years. For the past 30 years he had been secretary of the Temperanceville Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and was Postmaster at Makemie Park for 15 years. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in the Union Army. At one time he was captain of a Bay vessel. After a burial service at the grave in Greenwood Cemetery, Temperanceville, Thursday afternoon, July 30th, conducted by Rev. G.W. Watkis, he body was interred with Masonic honors. Besides his widow, Capt. Mister is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R.L. Cavalier and Mrs. Edward Joynes, of Balitmore, and one son, Mr. Lloyd Mister, of California.2 |

George N. Scherer, Frances E. Scherer &Samuel Scherer are under age. It is with reluctance that I am compelled to disinherit & discard my undutiful daughter Margaret who married contrary to my wish & advice to a worthless & infamous character who has bought her to want & suffer & who would gamble & drink up all I have & she not benefit & if I was to give her anything he or his creditors would devise some scheme to get it. It is my wish that she nor the children she may have, nor the infamous vagrant she has married shall ever own, possess, heir or in any way enjoy any portion of property I now have or may hereafter be possess of, nor heir anything that I have given my other children. Anecdote | 1861 | In his youth his family moved to Shepheard's Plains which his father had bought in 1828. He later attended Margaret Academy at Bobtown, Acc Co, where he attained a military posture which he retained throughout his life. After graduation he attended William & Mary College, where he became proficient in Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Leaving there in his senior year, he enlisted as soldier of the Confederacy, and served as 2nd Lieut. in the 39th Regiment of Virginia Volunteers of which Col. Louis C.H. Finney was Colonel, in Company H of which George S. West was Captain, James Bull 1st Lieut and Julius Ames 3rd Lieut, all of which commissions were held under Gov. Letcher and subject to his orders. His record is established with that of his life-long friend, Frederick Caesar Augustus Kellam and others on white marble memorials honoring the students at William & Mary College. After the War for a time he taught a provate school and was often called on as a speaker at public meetings.5 |

Anecdote* | 1875 | Richard Johnson Ayres Jr. was owner of a general merchandise Store at Ayres' Wharf on Nandua Creek, adjoining "Shepheard's Plains." His farm becoming prosperous, when he was enabled to acquire more help, required all his time to oversee, which task he perferred to do himself. R.J. Ayres had been schooled in the law, there fore was often summoned as a juror of the Accomack County Court at Drummondtown. Education facilities at this time were at a low ebb. Private schools were opened, few and far between, and he and his wife, not being willing to send their girls to the nearest one, began teaching them. Continuing this for a few years, they found it would be advantageous to move to Baltimore where there were good schools. He obtained a lucrative position as a bookkeeper with the Powell Wholesale Produce Company and after Mr. Powell's death, he was engaged as secretary and bookkeeper by his wife's brother, Roger Temple Dawson.7 |
