William James Lewers III
M, b. 12 April 1830, d. 24 October 1910
Biography* | | William James Lewers III (1830-1910) was the oldest child of William II and Mary Lewers and therefore he carried the name of this father and grandfather. He was born in New York City and in his early years he followed his father's business as a newscarrier. He had a route through the financial district of Wall Street. He married three times but family records to not reveal the names of his wives or the facts of their births or deaths. He had two children by his first wife; his older son was of course named William IV. His daughter was Mary and married Steve Burrows (Burroughs?). The second wife had four children, of whom three survived. Of the third wife, the least said the better. She is alleged to have deserted him, absconding with his lifetime savings. In a subsequent period of great poverty he moved to a farm owned by his son-in-law, Steve Burrows in Atlantic, VA. He continued to live in Virginia with his son and daughter-in-law, and indeed outlived his son." |
