Field 4:20 a. m. May 4th of chronic bronchitis age 75. Born at Horntown October 23rd 1836 a direct descendant of the noted Eastern Shore Families of McMasters and Makemies he entered Washington College, PA. in early life followed by a University of VA. Course with the late Dr. Broadwater of Temperanceville later graduating to medicine at the University of Maryland; practiced his calling in his native town for a short while he moved to Sedalia Md. For a period of twelve years and with a constant longing for the Evergreen Shore returned in the early 80's. He was a surgeon in the Union Army during the Civil War elected to the House of Delegates during the reconstruction period and appointed a member of Maryland-VA. boundary commission by the Governor. The doctor was one of our best posted citizens a close student of E. S. history and a valuable jurist-consult who will be greatly missed by those who were favored with personal acquaintances. The community offers expressions Of deep sorrow to those who are nearest and dearest to him. His remains were interred in Baltimore Md. (Service Record not found) - Interment in Baltimore - Chincoteague - (Source: AN 11 May 1912.)3,7 |
