On 10 Jan 1684/85 Lord Baltimore granted to William Brown of Somerset Co, MD a tract of land called Land Down on the east side of Chesapeake Bay, on the southwest side of Pocomoke River, beginning at a red oak corner tree . . . on the northeast side of a brach of Pocomoke River, by an Indian Town called "Chopompko" containing 500 acres. William Brown assigned his title to Simon Ffoscue of Accomack in Virginia, and Simon Ffoscue gave this land to his son Luke Ffoscue. Now Luke Ffoscue and Sarah his wife, in consideration of Ten Pounds silver money of Maryland and 15 pounds in country produce, convey the said 500 acres to Hodge and Ffleming.10 |

In 1689 Daniel Jenifer alone sold 300 acres to Martha Eyre, the widow of Benjamin; the land was partly above the Scarburgh purchase, being in the little neck formed by the two branches of Hog Neck Creek, but it extended northwest along the Justice land to the back line of the Jenifer acreage. The deed was to Martha for her life and then to her son Reginall Eyre, and in his will of 1709 he signed his name Regnold and left the property to his sisters Elizabeth and Martha. Nothing more was found recorded about the latter, so Elizabeth inherited the whole and she was married twice, first to John Abdill and then to William Stott, both of Northampton. In 1713 John and Elizabeth Abdill sold 160 acres to John Tankard, comprising the part east of the preent road. In 1749 John Tankard (wife Elizabeth) left to his son Stephen. However, the land later was recovered by daughters of Elizabeth (Whitelaw errored by saying they were by a previous marriage as he later stated they were Abdill daughter) and in 1752 Luke and Elizabeth Fortesque and Jeremiah and Rachel Ashby, the wives being Abdill daughters, sold the same land to William Jackson; the next year John and Elizabeth Dickson(sic) deeded their interest to Jackson, Elizabeth having been the daughter of Mary Stott, who also was an Abdill daughter.11 |

Creek near Kikotank and Assawoman in the county aforesaid and so thereof seized being by his last will and testament dated the 17th day of January MDCCVIII (1708) old stile devised the one moiety thereof to his sister Elizabeth and also the plantation by the name of the half of his land with the plantation being 150 acres which said 150 acres is bounded as follows West(?) on the land formerly Bennet Scarburgh's by a Branch to the line of the land formerly belonging to Ralph Justice dec'd East(?) and along and by his line to a line parting the said 150 acres from the said ------- by the said testator & his sister Martha and by that line and Pungoteauge Branch down the land as low as the said Eyre's land run which said Elizabeth afterwards intermarried with a certain John Abdel dec'd and survived him and is also lately dead by means where of the said 150 acres of land so as aforesaid bounded with the appurtenances descended to the said Luke Fortesque & Elizabeth his wife in right of the said Elizabeth and Jeremiah Ashby & Rachel his wife in right of the said Rachel as daughters and coheirs of the Elizabeth Abdel in fee. Now this indenture is that the said Luke Fortesque & Elizabeth his wife and Jeremiah Ashby & Rachel his wife for and in consideration of the sum of 60 pounds current money of Virginia to them paid by the said William Jackson bargain & sell the said plantation and 150 acres of land aforesaid as above.
