They were on their way from a land sale at Hopeton, where, Mr. Matthews had just purchased the S.H. Matthews farm for $19,500, to Mr. Park's home at Onley. Two automobiles had just crossed the track in front of them and it is thought they did not see the approaching train. Both were industrious and prosperous farmers and were promient in Masonic circles. A double funeral was held at Zion Baptist Church, Monday afternoon, November 29th. They were buried in Parksley Cemetery. Mr. Parks is survived by his wife and five daughters: Mrs. W.E. Matthews of Rue, Mrs. J.H. Turlington and Mrs. Lester Thomas of Melfa, Mrs. Carroll Matthews of Rue, Miss Azie Parks of Onley; one sister Mrs. L.J. Savage of Onley; and five brothers Messrs. W.W., Benand Orris Parks of Onley, and Messrs. George and John Parks of Pastoria, Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, two small daughters, Elizabeth & Gladys, and his parents Mr. & Mrs. W.S. Matthews of Rue and two brothers Messrs. S.S. & Carroll Matthews of Rue..2,3 |

Parkes, the tract or parcel of land where I now reside known as the Long field. Also the house and lot I purchased of Louis F. Hinman. Also the house and lot I purchased of Allie T. White. Also all the remainder (after payment of all my just debts and burial charges of my estate real, personal and mixed of every description, to be held by him in trust as hereafter set fourth, but the income arising from the said property shall go to the said George P. Parkes, provided that said George P. Parkes, keeps and comfortably cares for my daughter Mary A. Parkes and her lawful issue and in case it becomes necessary, or the income from said property, is not sufficient to keep my said daughter Mary A. Parkes, comfortably, then the said George P. Parkes may use so much of the personal property so held by him in trust, as may be necessary to accomplish that purpose, but in case of the refusal, or inability of said George P. Parkes, to carry out the trust imposed by this instrument, then the said Mary A. Parkes, shall have the privilege of selecting some person to execute said trust, and such selected person, shall hold the above named property, in trust for the purposes and under the conditions, herein set forth. In case the said Mary A. Parkes shall depart this life without leaving lawful issue, the I desire that my son Edward T. Parkes shall have the house and lot that I bought of Louis F. Hinman forever, and that my son George P. Parkes, shall have the house and lot that I bought of Allie T. White and that my daughter Margaret S. Causey shall have the house and land where I now reside, known as the Long Field, forever, and also all other property held in trust by the said George P. Parkes by me given for the benefit of said Mary A. Parkes, shall be equally divided between my three sons viz. George P. Parkes, Sylvanius W. Parkes and Edward T. Parkes. Lastly, I hereby nominate and appoint George P. Parkes and Edward T. Parkes, the executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 9th day of December A.D. 1895. Signed: Parker W. Parks. Witnessed: William T. Parkes and Andrew J. McCready, who in the presence of each other witnessed the signing of the above writing. At a court held for the Courty of Accomack on the 30th day of May 1898, This last will and testament of Parker W. Parkes, deceased, was proved by the oath of Andrew J. McCready, a witness thereto, who made oath that the said Parker W. Parks in the presence of William T. Parkes another subscribing witness thereto, who being present at the same time subscribed the said will in the presence of the said testator; whereupon the said will is order to the recorded. And thereupon, George P. Parkes, one the executors in the said will named appeared in Court and relinquished his right to qualify. And thereupon on the motion of Edward T. Parkes, the remaining Executor in the said will named, taking oath and giving bond according to law in the penalty of twelve thousand dollars ($12,000.00), with Joseph Moore, George P. Parkes and Sylvanius W. Parkes sureties therein, who justified their sufficiency on oath. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form.
