Walker, went to be with her Lord on November 3, 2020 after completing all her earthly tasks. Born on February 16, 1942 in Sanford, she was the daughter of the late Bradford Hall and Florence Parker Hall. Mary’s true calling in life was that of a caregiver. She loving cared for her Mother, her Husband and everyone she knew that needed help. She was the resident doctor for whatever your ailment and her house was that of the local general store- if she had it – it was yours. Mary devoted her life to her Church. She was the Custodian for nearly 60 years. She taught Sunday School “The Busy Bees”, ran the Bible School, and was head of the Bazaar Committee. She was in charge of the Christmas Program, tree trimming, and never forgot the “treats”. She was also the Church Historian, member of the UMW, and member of the Red Hat Society. Mary is survived by two sons, Michael Everett Walker and wife Tammy of Sanford, and Jeffrey Charles Walker and wife Teresa of Nokesville; a sister, Linda Ellen Miles and husband M.K. of Saxis; a brother, William B. Hall, Jr. and wife, Elaine of Sanford; three grandchildren, Amber Giddings and husband, Jimmy, Ashleigh Walker, and Lucas Walker; and two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Locklyn Giddings. A service honoring her life will be held on Friday, November 6th at 2:00 PM from the Sanford United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Jefferson and Rev. Glenda Turlington officiating. Interment will follow in the John W. Taylor Cemetery in Temperanceville. The family will receive friends on Friday, one hour prior to the service at the Church. Should Friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to: Sanford United Methodist Church, 8152 Flag Pond Rd, Sanford, VA 23426. Arrangements entrusted to the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, VA. |

Feddeman wrote a letter to his father-in-law Samuel James Slocomb about 1875 in Texas which contained family births, deaths and marriages, evidently copied from a family Bible. In addition he wrote the following (the first page or so must be missing): If there is any particular kind that you want please write me word. I can get from 50 to 100 Scients (sic) if you want them and they will not cost much or scarcely anything. We have a large peach crop. Oats is cut of on account of the drought we had in May. Corn is looking very well, but we have had some very cold nights of late. I work very hard trying to make all I can this year. Our little boy has been very sick for the last four or five weeks. Mary & myself is quite well at present. Mrs. Sallie Slocomb and her daughter Birtie is visiting us at this time. They send their regards to you. They seem to think a great deal of Mary. Birtie is a very fine young lady and stays with us a great deal and is a great deal of company to Mary. Mr. Slocomb, please excuse this horrable writing. I stay by the plough handles so much that I became double fisted and cannot write at all. Nothing more. Your Truly & Obedient. Jos. A. Feddeman.7 |

Her husband, Samuel L. Trader, was a merchant at Oak Hall until 1938, when he became Deputy Commissioner of Revenue for Accomack County. He became the Commissioner in 1958 and was in office at the time of his death. Lena Bundick Trader spent the last eight years of her live in the Bi-County (White's) Nursing Home at Gargatha, now the Arcadia Nursing Home. This facility stands on land the second Richard Bundick bought from Daniel Jenifer in 1689. |

She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Westhampton College, University of Richmond, VA in 1944. Mrs. Carey taught science and mathematics at Atlantic High School in Oak Hall, VA, retiring in 1976. She had been a mathematician at the Navel Aviation Ordnance Test Station, Chincoteague, (present Wallops Station) for seven years. In 1981, Mrs. Carey became a certified genealogist and spent an additional 15 years tracing family histories and recording local tombstones. Tombstone Inscriptions of upper Accomack County, VA and was printed in 1996. Mrs. Carey enjoyed reading, gardening, watching PGA golf, and her family. She belonged to Downing Methodist Church and a member of the Jamestowne Society and an honorary member of GHOTES. She is survived by her two children, Janice C. Williams and husband, Allen, William Jeffrey Carey and wife, Rebecca B. Carey, five grandchildren, Nicole W. Miles, Rachel W. Rivera, Joshua Williams, William Tyler Carey and Miranda L. Carey.
