Death* | before 25 September 1782 | Timothy died before 25 September 1782 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was proved. Isaiah Kelly was named heir at law..2 |
Anecdote* | 28 September 2016 | On 28 Sep 2016 Bill Kelly ([email protected]) reported that he and his brother Peter Kelly got a yDNA match with Charles Stewart Kelly, an Accomack Co, VA, Kelly, born in 1950. Their last common ancestor was Timothy Kelly (1712-1782) which proved that Arthur of Isaiah of Timothy was William Arthur Kelly Sr. (1835-1920)'s biological father, which had been in question. Besides confirming Bill, Peter and Charles' pedigrees, this and the fact that earlier yDNA results showed Elmer Kelly, an Accomack Co, VA, Kelly born 1944, an 8th generation male line descendant of Edmond Kelly (1702-1762) and Eddie Kelly, an Accomack Co, VA, Kelly, born 1950, a 9th generation male line descendant of John Kelly (1690-1763) (Edmond & John being sons of the first John Kelly (1660-1724) of Accomack Co, VA) match each other but they do not match Bill, Peter & Charles proves that Timothy Kelly was not a biological grandson of the first John Kelly. The likeliest case is that Timothy's father Thomas Kelly (1685-1727) was not a biological son of the first John Kelly. Additional support for this is Thomas' relatively shabby treatment in John Kelly's will. Thomas was the first born and possibly a son of John Kelly's wife Sarah Bell before she married John Kelly.6 |
Anecdote* | 12 March 2021 | On 12 Mar 2021 Bill Kelly ([email protected]) reported that the pre-2016 charts have him and his brother Peter descended from John Kelly of Muddy Creek, but yDNA evidence proves that this is not the case. In particular, Timothy of Thomas Kelly is proven not to be the biological grandson of John Kelly, the likeliest case being that Thomas was not John Kelly's son by birth. Peter's yDNA matches are mostly named Phelan / Whalen (which are probably spelling variants of each other) and Markham (which probably arose from a NPE). There are 2 unique mutations on our yDNA. Our closet matching Markhams have both. Our closest Phelans have one but not the other. Peter has been in touch with one of the modern-day Markhams who shares these mutations. His research indicates that his ancestors were early (c 1635) settlers in Henrico, Virginia. Most of them quickly headed west as the west opened up, but one line - at least one individual - had to remain in Virginia to give rise to us, by way of Timothy Kelly's biological grandfather. John Marcum Sr, friend of Francis Harper, who fled Northampton for Annemessex in Somerset Co, MD c 1662, just about has to be the Markham immigrant who strayed from his family, and just about has to be Timothy Kelly's great grandfather. We're looking for a Markham, and he's the only one around at the time!6 |
