She was a member of the Crisfield Church of God and she is survived by two sons, Earl Mears and Leon Sterling, two daughters, Mrs. Miles Rhodes, Mrs. Vesta Dorman, one brother, Carroll Sterling, all of Crisfield; twelve grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday, at 2 p.m. in the Hinman Funeral Home. Rev. James Cauldwell officiated, assisted by Rev. Donald Corbin. Interment was in Asbury Cemetery. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, December 1, 1978, p. 11.1 |

So, the Berrys showed up at the doorstep of my grandfather and said, "I heard you had a son you want to adopt". History was made in that moment and my grandfather traveled home with the Berrys. That was a different day. It was probably the best thing because my great grandfather was not the nicest person as I have read and heard from my father when he was living. I have read also that it was later when he was adopted.1 |
