Glenda Turlington and Pastor Freddie Ward officiated. Interment was in Liberty Cemetery, Parksley. Mrs. Linton is survived by a daughter, Ruth Ann Jones of Indianapolis, Ind; a son, Ervin Linton Jr. of Saxis; two brothers, Henry and George Nicholson; and three grandchildren. Dixie was a member of the Saxis United Methodist Church and had worked at the former R&G Shirt Factory, Roses, NASA and most recently at Accomack Go-Glass, where she was a customer service representative for 18 years. She enjoyed spending her free time reading, gardening her flower beds and playing and loving on her “Lil Man”, Jonathan. Other than her husband, Dixie is survived by two sons, Richard Lee Martin, II and wife, Lorraine of Parksley and Nicholas Adrion Martin and wife, Jamie of Saxis; two sisters, Helena Mister of Durham, NC and Elizabeth McGee and husband, Joe of Withams; two brothers, Adrion “A.W.” Williams and wife, Phyllis of Saxis and Anthony “Wayne” Williams and wife, Linda of Wilmington, DE; one grandson, Jonathan Lee Martin of Parksley; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 2:00 PM from the Saxis United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Cobb officiating. Interment will follow in the Groton’s Cemetery in Hallwood. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, VA. |

Biography* | August 1915 | "Loudy" Linton was shot and instantly killed about 8 o'clock Sunday evening by Crawley Justis, both of Saxis, VA. Mr. Justis had recently returned from the asylum very much improved, but becoming demented again and unmanageable, the Justice of the Peace summoned Mr. Linton to assist in arresting him. On approaching his home they were fired upon from an upper window with result as stated. The officer succeeded in making the arrest Monday morning and he was taken to the asylum at Williamsburg, VA. Mr. Linton was a highly respected citizen and the unfortunate affair has cast a gloom over the community. He is survived by his widow and four children, to whom sincere sympathy is extended (Acc News, 27 Aug 1915). Lodi Linton's unmarked grave was identified by Rhoney May Linton in Jun 1981. |

In a deed dated 4 Jun 1856, Stephen Linton and his wife Mary, Henry Hall, and Edward Pecor (bought/sold?) a parcel of land on Saxes Island, bounded on the East by the Sanford Charity, on the Southwest by Dennard Marshall and Edward Pecor, and on the North by the Pocomoke Sound, containing 30 acres for $613 (Acc Deeds No. 40, 1855-1858, p. 187). On 30 Apr 1857, Stephen Linton, Plaintiff, and Triffy Linton (assumed to be his mother), Defendant, were involved in a land dispute over 17 acres bounded on the North by Zachariah Marshall (assumed to be Triffy's brother), on the East by the Sanford Charity, on the South by Absalom Lewis, and on the West by the Pocomoke Sound (Acc Deeds No. 40, p. 455). Stephen Linton died on 12 Sep 1888 of consumption. His death was reported by his son Thomas (Acc Deaths, 1853-1896). Stephen Linton died on 13 Sep 1888 on Sykes Island after a long and painful illness at age 66 (Pen. Ent., 22 Sep 1888). |
