Peter William Bonnewell1
M, b. circa 1843, d. 11 October 1923
Birth* | circa 1843 | Peter was born circa 1843 at Accomack Co, VA. Peter William Bonawell's b.c. 1843 is based on him being the "William" listed as age 7 in the 1850 Acc Census household of George P. "Bonnewell" age 27. He was also listed as age 29 on his marriage license of 24 Dec 1872 to Eliza Lewis, which would also put his birth circa 1843. The 1900 census listed Peter as being born in Feb 1844. His obituary referred to him as Capt. Peter W. "Bonniwell" a former captain of steamers between Baltimore and other ports, and an agent for the B.C. & A. RY Co. and put his birth at 1837 (Pen. Ent., 20 Oct 1923)..1 |

Biography* | | He was not listed in the 1870 or 1880 Census on Saxis. However, his sons William & Cornelius were listed with his wife Drucilla Miles' parents in 1870. Since he was a captain of steamers and since some of his children were reported as being born in Baltimore, MD, perhaps his family moved to Baltimore when he was young and this would explain why he was not in a local census in 1870 and 1880. |
Marriage* | 1883 | He married Amanda 'Mendie' Lewis, daughter of Revel James Lewis and Matilda Emily Spence, in 1883.5 |
Church member* | 1898 | Peter was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.6 |
