Provided nevertheless and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said Major Taylor and Elizabeth his wife, their heirs or executors shall well and truly pay to the said Custis Lewis within twelve months from the above date the aforesaid sum of $27.42 with legal interest thereon from the date hereof and the cost of writing and recording of this deed and all such further sums of money as they may hereafter become indebted to the said Custis Lewis and in that case this dee shall be void and of no affect, else to remain in full force. Signed James Taylor & Princessor (her X mark) Taylor. There were no witnesses. George Scarburgh and John Finney, Justices of the Peace, do certify that Jas. Taylor (of Major) a party to a certain deed dated 16 Feb 1824 hereunto annexed, appeared before us and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify it to the Clerk of Court in order that it be recorded. Signed 18 Feb 1824 by Geo. Scarburgh and John Finney. They also certified that Princessor Taylor, the wife of James Taylor, being examined privately and apart from her husband acknowledged it to be her act and deed. The deed was received in the Clerks Office on 24 March 1824 and admitted to record.2 |
