A highly decorated Vietnam War veteran of the 82nd Airborne, Spencer Savage earned an impressive number of medals both during the War and afterwards remaining active in the Army Reserves. Spencer achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. He was a proud Green Beret who served in Special Operations and was a Master Parachutist. Lieutenant Colonel Savage carried with him the countenance traits of a leader.1

Freeman, my Negro slaves Isaac (sometimes called yellow Isaac) and Caroline, with the increase of the said Caroline since 1 Jany 1859. To my son Robert M. Savage, my Negroe slaves Ben, Abram and Georgianna, with the increase of them after this date. To my grand-daughter Sarah L. Eure, the daughter of Mills H. Eure, my Negro boy Jessy, provided she attains lawful age or marries, if not, the said Jessy to her own brothers and sisters then living. To grandson Caleb M. Eure, the son of Mills H. Eure, my Negro man Charles and all my carpenter tools, provided he obtains lawful age or has issue, or without issue I give the same to his sister or sisters then living. To my son Robert M. Savage, the plantation I puchased of Mills H. Eure in Gates Co, NC, called the "Sephen(?) Trader(?), with the distinct understanding that if my death should occur after the first day of March of any given year, that my son William Jesse, who is now living upon the said farm, shall remain in quiet possession of the same until his crop of the said year shall be housed or otherwise disposed of, upon the condition that my son Robert M. shall pay into my estate $2,000, one half of which I give to the child or children of my daughter Margaret Ann Freeman and the remaining half to the child or children of my daughter Sarah L. Eure, and upon this condition, I give the said "Sephen(?) Trader(?) to my said son Robert M. Savage. To my son Wm. Jesse, the land and plantation on which I now live, including the lands I purchased of Thomas Badner(?), John H. Hartell(?), Wm. R. In his will Elijah Pigot gave to his wife Sevil Pigot the use of all my estate both real and personal during her widowhood, excepting such things as I shall mention here after and at her marriage or death which ever should happen first, I desire what estate should be left to be divided amongst all my children as I shall mention. I give to my two sons, William & Elijah the land that I bought from John Nelson with all properties there onto belonging. I give to my son Culpeper one half of the land I bought from Col. Ward on Bulls Neck and 50 acres of that I bought of Amus Jonsin & Simson up North River. I give to my daughter Thamer 50 acres of the land I took up back of the road lying out back on the Straits. I give to my son Levi 50 acres of that same patent land. I give to my son Culpepper 50 acres of that same patent land. I give to my two sons Wm & Elijah 25 acres each of them out of the same patent. I give to my son Ralph 20 acres of that land I bought from Amus Jonsin (-----) Simson. I give to my son Micajah 20 acres of that same deed I had from Simson & Johnson. I give to my son Wm Pigot 30 acres of that same deed I had from Johnson & Simson. I give to my son Jeconias that land I bought from Robert Wallis. I give to my two sons Joseph & Abraham that land I bought from Adam Wallis and give that 50 acres I entered on North River. I give to my sons Wm, Cull, Ralph, Micajah, Jeconias, Joseph & Abraham to be equally divided among them all. I give to my two daughters Lishey and Sevil the one half of that land I had from Col. Ward, likewise I give them two daughters 50 acres of that land I entered at the Straits if that quantity should be found after the rest having their parts. I give Lishey & Sevil & Joseph & Abraham each of them one cow and calf likewise I desire that Samson should be hired out as long as till his hire shall school Lishey half on year & Sivel one whole year and to Joseph and Abraham one year and a half each of them. My desire is that my wife Cevil Pigot should have the use of what land I bought from John Nelson and Adam Wallis during her widowhood and the use of all the rest of my estate that is not here given away and at her death or marriage which ever should happen first, then whatever should be left to be equally divided among all my children. I leave my wife Cevil Pigot and my sons Wm Pigot, Culpeper Pigot, Levy Pigot and Elijah Pigot executors to my estate. Signed 18 November 1788 by Elijah Pigot.
