Self-employed in the seafood business for 20 years, Dicky was the owner of the former D & J Seafood Market and Carry Out in Crisfield. He was currently a driver for the Somerset Commuter Trans it Service in Somerset County. He was a former member of the Army National Guard of Maryland. Affiliated with the Crisfield High School Class of 1959, he was a licensed boat captain, an extra class ham radio operator, an avid gardener, a good singer, a great cook and a member of the former CB Club for many years, for which he served as president. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sally Burton Tyler, at home in Crisfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Lee Jr. and Lisa Tyler of Crisfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Toni Ann and James Alan Baker of Crisfield; two sisters, Valerie Swift and her husband, Wayne, and Kathy Somers, all of Crisfield; three grandchildren, Eric Michael Tyler, Steven Lee Tyler and James Alan Baker Jr; and one grandson on the way; and two nieces, Kristen Swift and Holly Somers, both of Crisfield. Funeral services were held Friday at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. Other than his wife, he is survived by a son, Johnny Gibbons, III., and wife Angelique of Temperanceville; two grandsons, Brady and Berkley Gibbons of Temperanceville; a sister, Lois Ann Mears of Parksley; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dickie Gibbons and Edward Gibbons. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 5th at 2:00 PM from Zion Baptist Church in Parksley with Rev. Andrew Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the Modest Town Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Thornton Funeral Home.1 |
