Memorandum dated 6 September 1589 - Whereas I have devised to my son John Chappell 150 pounds amongst other things as aforesaid for as much as I have now lately paid to the said John Chappell, my son, 100 pounds and 20 pounds of lawful English money, my will is that the residue thereof being 30 pounds shall be only paid to my said son John and no more. When we sent Traves away, Since which we have apprehended Elijah Sturgis & one Rugby Slocom, the latter is a vilian that has bin with the enemy Burning & plundering, was Taken by Capt Shadwick, on W Island, and sent to us as he is One of this County. I most sincerely wish that your Excellency & Co would Order a Court to try those persons, as they are kept in Goal at a very Grate expence, being oblidge to keep a Constant guard, the Goal not being Trustworthy - and I Cannot send them forward to Annapolis for want of money.4 |

I rote you by way of Talbot Court house Informing you of this omition but have not Recd Your Answer to that letter, which Inclines me to think you have not Recd my letter & I am Sorry to Inform you that on this day week at night the prisoners Broke Goal and one of the Gratest Vilians Reyle Slocom, has made his Escape, the others have given themselves up and Can be sent to their tryal when ever we know when & whare the Court is to sitt to try them.5 |

In 1750 the will of John White (wife Peggy) did not mention the land, but it went to Caleb White, presumably as the eldest son. In 1787 Caleb White (wife Patience) left to his brother-in-law (half-brother) Littleton Andrews, after the deaths of White's mother and wife. How he had obtained title was not found, but in 1807 the land of one Samuel Cox was surveyed as 150 1/2 acres; 78 acres were assigned to Robert C. Lileston and 72 1/2 acres to Patsey Andrews. In 1811 John and Patsey Lileston sold 40 acres to George Young, and two years later he bought 40 acres from Robert C. and Nancy Lileston. Also in 1811 David and Sukey Ross sold the eastern 72 acres to Major S. Pitts, saying that it had been recovered by law from Robert C. Lileston and Patsey Andrews. (NOTE: Samuel Cox had 2 daughters: Nancy Cox married Robert C. Lileston and Patsey Cox married Major Andrews & then John Lilliston in 1811.)9 |
