Rhoads of Salisbury, MD; two sons, James Hamilton Ayres of Chincoteague and Carl Albert Ayres of Modest Town; a step-daughter, Kim Saunders; a sister, Marjorie T. Evans of Cashville; a brother, Robert G. Taylor of Cashville; seven grandchildren, Gabrielle, Heather, Meredith, Taylor, Erin, Hannah and Ryan; thirteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Davis and a brother, Harry Albert Taylor. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of the Eastern Shore, P.O. Box 164, Onley, VA 23418. Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, VA. |

In his will Joseph Lankford of Somerset County and State of Maryland being weak of body but sound mind and memory calling to mind the uncertainty of life, do make this my last will and testament. First I give and bequeath to my son Revel one negro woman called Line and her child Alsey, one boy called Samuel, also one hundred and fifty dollars cash - to him and his heirs for ever. Item, I give and bequeath to my son John Pusey one bed and furnature one negro woman called Nelly to him & his heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Tilghman, one negro boy called George also one girl called Eliza on negro girl called Mary one walnut chest one book case, one bed and fernature independant of one left her by her aunt Betsy Coulburn now in my possession, and twenty dollars cash to her and her heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my son Aaron Coulburn one bed and fernature one negro woman called Liddy, also I leave to my son Aaron my negro man Harry untill the land Aaron shall arives to the age of twenty one years it is my will that Harry shall after that time at liberty to acct for himself and when incapable, to be supported by my son Aaron Coulburn. Item I give and bequeath unto my two sons John Pusey and Aaron Coulburn, the plantation wherein I live including the place purchased of Samuel Trehearn, to be divided between them by a divisional line at the corner of a great ditch on the ninth line of a tract of land called Second Choice, then running North eighty four deg’s thirty minutes East, fifty two perches to a marked possession tree thence south south forty seven deg’s East, eight perches to a Spanish Oak, thence with a line drawn South seventy nine deg’s East to the extent of my land, the North side of the land lines I give to John Pusey and the South side I give to Aaron Coulburn also the wood land I purchased of Doct. Tho. Robertson Jr to be equally divided between John Pusey and Aaron Coulburn to them & their heirs for ever. Item I leave the remainder of my personal estate to be equally divided between my three children, Revell, Betsey Tilghman and Aaron Coulburn to them and their heirs forever. Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son John Pusey executor of this last will and testament revoking, all others and witness my hand and seal this third day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred * eighteen. Legend has it that their mother kept a candle burning in her window for him the remaining years of her life, fifty-one years.
