Death*5 January 2015Nancy Beville Poore died on 5 January 2015 at Rockville, Montgomery Co, MD, at age 81. Mrs. Nancy Poore Pierce, the widow of the late Frank H. Pierce III, of Princess Anne, Maryland, passed away January 5, 2015 at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland. Nancy is survived by her beloved family, including son, Frank H. Pierce IV, his wife Yvany Peery, her daughter, Marie Rundquist, her husband Edward Nowicki, and her grandson Paul Rundquist. Mother, wife, home-maker, and community volunteer, Mrs. Pierce made her family home in Silver Spring, Maryland. During her lifetime, Nancy was a member of the League of Women Voters and participated in the original "Earth Day" movement in the early 1970s. Nancy was a founding member of the German-American Heritage Society and was awarded the German Federal Service Cross for her research of German-American history. Along with co-editing several books of her late husband, Frank H. Pierce III, Nancy also researched and published articles about artist Henry Ulke and Washington, D.C. architect, Adolph Cluss. Nancy and her late husband Frank were active and contributing members of the Edward H. Nabb Research Center in Salisbury, Maryland and the Washington Saengerbund. All are welcome to be present at Mrs. Pierce's burial service, at the Manokin Presbyterian Church, in Princess Anne, Maryland, set for February 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the Edward H. Nabb Research Center of Salisbury Maryland in honor of Mrs. Nancy P. Pierce and her late husband, Frank H. Pierce. III. Published in The Daily Times from Feb. 3 to Feb. 4, 2015
-----
Nancy, together with her late husband Frank Pierce, was a longtime, Life Member of the Washington Saengerbund not only as an active singer but she also at times served on the board of directors back in the 1980s. The Washington Saengerbund History book published around the 125th anniversary of the Saengerbund was authored by Frank with the help of extensive research done by Nancy. Together they were able to create an interesting picture of past Saengerbund history by finding, contacting and interviewing descendants of earlier members. Nancy herself spent many days at the Library of Congress reading old newspaper stories, with her son Frank IV (always called Hutch) doing translations of German publications. Marie expressed her wish for the Saengerbund to sing at the service for her mother on Saturday, March 7. There will be a local Mass a month later on Saturday, March 7 at 10:30am, delivered in memory of my mother Nancy, at St. John The Baptist Church 12319 New Hampshire Avenue Northeast, Silver Spring, MD 20904 (301) 622-1122, followed by a gathering at The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration 13925 New Hampshire Avenue Silver Spring, MD 20904 Phone: 301-384-6264 at 12:00 o'clock.
-----
The Washington Saengerbund has been invited to sing during the Mass. We have selected two pieces from Schubert's Deutsche Messe: Introit "Wohin soll ich mich wenden", and Sanctus "Heilig, heilig, heilig".1,2
Burial*Nancy was buried at Manokin Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Princess Anne, Somerset Co, MD.2
