Jacob Payne Jones1
M, b. circa 1792, d. before 1840

Will - Father's* | 4 May 1825 | Jacob was named in his father's will on 4 May 1825 at Worcester Co, MD. In his will Major Jones named wife Polly Extr. to son Agar Lewis Jones. To son Jacob, 5 acres. To grandsno Major Jones, son of Jacob. To granddaughters Sarah Ann and Elizabeth. Mentioned debt due of son Moses to Capt. William Schoolfield and to Dr. John Stevenson. To daughters Tabitha and Sally. To granddaughter Amelia Hall. Witt: John Stevenson, Ebenzer Hearn and William H. Tilgman.1 |
Land deeded from* | 23 August 1830 | He deeded land on 23 August 1830 at Worcester Co, MD. Jacob and his wife Milly deeded to William Schoolfield all his rights to one-half of the lands willed to Jacob and Major Jones by Major Jones except five acres where Jacob now lived, part of tracts Winter Quarter and Cowley.3 |
Death* | before 1840 | He died before 1840 at Worcester Co, MD. Jacob P. Jones died before 1840 in which year Amelia Jones was listed as head of the family.3 |
Biography* | 1860 | Robert "Bob" Jones reports that the 1860 Census, p. 130, HH #2840, Costens District: Amelia, 62; George T. [my great-grandfather], 26; Alford, 32; Maria, 30; Susan, 45; Amelia is George's aunt and widow of Jacob Jones, who is likewise his uncle. Alfred is his brother. Susan's age (45) is incorrect, as is Maria's who is presumably George's mother. Maria was likely born 1801, so 59 in 1860; Susan, b. c 1807, was the youngest sister of Amelia and Maria. George and Alfred are perhaps with their aunt bereaving the loss of husband Jacob. The two families are doubly allied as it is a case of two sisters (Amelia and Maria) marrying two brothers (Jacob and Moses). Amelia's two able-bodied nephews, George and Alfred, are critically needed in a household that produced no sons - only daughters, both of whom have married by 1860. I have never seen Jacob Jones' middle name, only the intitial "P," which would seem to indicate "Payne," his mother's maiden name.4 |

(NOTE: Several Ancestry.com family trees and Lt. Col. Wilson shows that she was, therefore, the daughter of William Clarkson. However, she was not named in his will. He named 4 sons in his will, but 5 unnamed children were mentioned at probate. So she may have been the 5th child, although Ed Wright shows the 5th child as possibily Elizabeth Clarkson, who married Thomas Cox on 4 Dec 1714 in Stepney Parish, Somerset Co, MD. If she was his daughter it seems that she should have been named with him when he was transported into Maryland in 1676. If she was his daughter she must have been by a much earlier marriage before he came to Maryland. She will continue to be shown as his daughter until proof of who else she have been can be found.)1,3 |
