Death* | before 5 January 1669/70 | He died before 5 January 1669/70 at Calvert Co, MD. It was on this date that his will was proved.3 |
Anecdote* | | On p. 516, footnote #12 of AP&P, Vol. 1, Dorman shows that claimed children of Isaack Chaplaine are: Mary Chaplaine as wife of Anthony Wyatt, primarily because Wyatt was an early ower of "Chaplaine's Choice," but there is no evidence that Chaplaine had a daughter or that Wyatt's wife was named Mary, and William Chaplaine of Calvert Col, Md., who left will, 9 Dec. 1669 - 5 Jan 1669/70 (Maryland Prerogative Court Wills 1, p. 363), naming wife Mary, daughters Elizabeth Chaplaine and Mary Chaplaine and son William, but to date no documentary evidence in support of these claimed descents has been presented. Also unproved is the claim that the wife of Isaack Chaplaine was born Mary Calvert. On p. 134 of The Calvert Family by John Bailey Calvert Nicklin, he shows that issue of Leonard Calvert (b. 1550) and Grace Crossland of Yorkshire is unknown save one son, George Calvert, the Founder of Maryland, but it is probably that Mary Calvert (who was born in 1586 and married, in 1606, Captain Isaac Chapline, R.N.) was a daughter of Leonard Calvert and Grace Crossland. (Two of their sons settled in America: John Chapline in Virginia and William Chapline in Maryland). In his will, the first Lord Baltimore refers to his "kindred" in the "North" (i.e., of England, - Yorkshire), but there is no record of any of them and he mentions none by name.4,1 |
