Whereas a certain Levin Laylor, father of the said William Laylor did by will executed on the 23rd day of December 1819 and recorded in the county court of Accomack, devise to the said William Laylor, by the name of Garababel William Laylor to Mary Elizabeth Laylor since deceased, a certain tract and parcel of land described in said will to them and their heirs, but if they should die without issue then he devised the same to the children of his brother Arthur Laylor and Kazieh, Mary and John Chandler to be equally divided between them and said parties of the first part have a contingent interest in the aforesaid land, dependant upon the said William Laylor dying without issue, same being willing to release all their interest in said land and said will to William Laylor. Earned a BS in 1974 and a Masters of Liberal Arts in 1983 at Rockford College. Lived in Rockford for 41 years. Employed at Swedish American Hospital for 36 years. He was Lab Administrator, Director of Clinical Services and later Manager of Laboratory Systems, retiring in 2007. An active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, he served for several years as lector. An avid reader and gardener, he enjoyed many years of camping and traveling, and also enjoyed classes at Rock Valley College, CLR. He was a devoted husband and father to his eight children and beloved "Granddad" to 20 grandchildren. He is survived by wife, Rosemary; eight children, Anne Marie O'Connell of Rockford; SMSgt. John J. O'Connell, USAF, Catherine (Jim) Shannon of Mundelein, Joan (Todd) Behme of Woodridge, Patty (Matthew) Nichele of Roscoe, Mary (Todd) Field of Rockford, Elizabeth (Adam) Cross of Mundelein and Dan (Victoria) O'Connell of Rockford; sister, Marilyn Huether of Long Island, NY; 20 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, with Fr. David E. Beauvais officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. He was honored for outstanding performance and top class ranking many times. Upon early retirement, he became a successful businessman, founding three Virginia corporations; Communications Management Associates, Mid-Atlantic BellCom( now Mid Atlantic Business Communications) and Chesapeake Investments. He was a semi-professional historian and professional researcher and genealogist having published books and articles centered on Eastern Shore families and the history of Norfolk County, including the Revell Family. He was a lifetime member of the Edward H. Nabb Research Center of Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury State University. His volunteer work included 14 years with the Boy Scouts of America, earning the Silver Beaver Award, the Portsmouth Jaycees, and two area churches. Visitation and lunch will be at Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321, on Saturday Jan. 14, 2017 from 12 noon to 3 PM. Laylor at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained, granted, sold and … and by these presents do bargain, grant, sell and confirm to the said William J. Laylor his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract of land containing fifty acres more or less not sold by the acre but by the maps and boundaries as follows: Northwardly by the lands belonging to Nath. Topping and William M. Riley west by a branch of Onancock Creek, which separates from the land of Nathaniel Topping east, and south by the land formerly belonging to Levin Laylor, deceased. To have and to hold the said tract of land aforesaid and the appurtenances to the William J. Laylor his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use benefit and behoof of him the said William J. Laylor his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Elizabeth M. Revell for herself, her heirs and executors hereby covenant and agree too and with the said William J. Laylor his heirs and assigns, that at the time of the sealing and delivery of these presents, she the said Elizabeth M. Revell is seized of the premises aforesaid of and in a good indefensible estate of inheritance in fee simple that she has good right and lawful authority to sell and convey the same to the said William J. Laylor that the aforesaid William J. Laylor his heirs and assigns shall forever quietly and freely enjoy the premises free from encumbrances and that she will forever warrant and defend the premises to the said William J.
