Marriage Anniversary - Three Score and Ten Years of Happy Married Life - Probably the oldest married couple living in Campbell County, KY, today is James W. Selby and Gertrude Selby his wife. Mrs. Selby's maiden name was Gertrude Sturges. They were united in marriage near Snow Hill, Worcester Co, MD, on 22 January 1819, and on 22nd of this monty, at their home in California, KY, they celebrated the seventieth anniversary of that happy day. There were the parents of ten children, five boys and five girls, seven of whom are still living. They left Baltimore, MD in August 1823, coming over the Alleghenies in a wagon to Pittsburg, thence down the Ohio River in a skiff rowed by themselves, landing at Point Pleasant, Ohio, where they made their home until 1831 when they removed to Moscow. After a few years residence at Moscow the removed to Camplell County, KY where at California, they still reside. They have been life long, consistent and devoted members of the M.E. Church. At their anniversary there were present three children, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family now numbers ten children, sixty-five grandchildren, one hundred and twenty great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. This happy old couple spite of their years (Mr. Selby being ninety and Mrs. Selby eighty-nine years of age) are in the enjoyment of excellent health in the every day duties of life. Mrs. Selby in never idle and when not engaged in household duties is employed in sewing or knitting and as late as a week since fit and made a dress for herself. There were the parents of ten children, five boys and five girls, seven of whom are still living. They left Baltimore, MD in August 1823, coming over the Alleghenies in a wagon to Pittsburg, thence down the Ohio River in a skiff rowed by themselves, landing at Point Pleasant, Ohio, where they made their home until 1831 when they removed to Moscow. After a few years residence at Moscow the removed to Camplell County, KY where at California, they still reside. They have been life long, consistent and devoted members of the M.E. Church. At their anniversary there were present three children, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family now numbers ten children, sixty-five grandchildren, one hundred and twenty great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. This happy old couple spite of their years (Mr. Selby being ninety and Mrs. Selby eighty-nine years of age) are in the enjoyment of excellent health in the every day duties of life. Mrs. Selby in never idle and when not engaged in household duties is employed in sewing or knitting and as late as a week since fit and made a dress for herself.
