George Custis Henning, president of the Traders National Bank, was born in Washington, D.C. on February 3, 1833. He is the son of George W. and Sarah Custis( Lewis) Henning. In 1847 Mr. Henning embarked in mercantile pursuits, and later engaged in the clothing business, under the firm name of George C. Henning & Company, where he continued for some years until he entered the firm of Saks & Company as a partner. He continued in this firm until 1890, when he engaged in the organization of the bank, whose affairs he has so successfully since piloted. Mr. Henning was a Union man and served in Company A, National Guard, on March 4, 1861, the day of President Lincoln's inauguration, but was shortly afterward mustered out of service. Mr. Henning was very familiar with the history of the District. During his early life he was especially interested in church work and music. He owned considerable land on the eastern shore of Virginia, where he spent his summers for a number of years. William (of Wm of Philip & Eliza) Parker1
M, b. circa 1686
Birth* | circa 1686 | William (of Wm of Philip & Eliza) Parker was born circa 1686 at Accomack Co, VA.1 |
Will - Father's* | 13 August 1696 | William was named in his father's will on 13 August 1696 at Matompkin, Acc Co, VA. It may have been him who was shown as son William Parker (under 18) in the will of William Parker, of Matompkin, wife Elizabeth. He was given the balance of land at St. Martins in Someset Co, MD and one moiety of my land at Matompkin until my wife's death and then to enjoy the whole 373 acres. (NOTE: Since there is a conflict between being an under son in the 1696 will of Wm Parker of Matompkin and being named as the husband of the widow Sarah Spiers in the same year, he may not be the son of Wm. Parker of Matompkin who died in 1696. However, when he wrote his will in 1721 it was witnessed by William Burton who then lived on the Sea Side in this general area.)2 |
Land inherited* | 1697 | He inherited land in 1697 at tract A95, Sea Side north of Accomac, Accomack Co, VA. William Parker, wife Elizabeth, left to his son William; there is no record of his death, but he is believed to have died without heir and the land passed to his sisters Comfort and Patience. In 1709 John and Comfort Roades sold her interest to Thomas Copes, and 10 years later when Patience had died without issue, her interest passed to Comfort and the Roades sold that half also to Thomas Copes. Beyond that nothing is very definite, but it is believed to have been merged with the Copes part of the Peter Walker land.1 |

Anne Stith1
F, b. 25 January 1660, d. 17 July 1709
Birth* | 25 January 1660 | Anne Stith was born on 25 January 1660 at Charles City Co, VA.2 |
Death* | 17 July 1709 | She died on 17 July 1709 at Kippax Plantation, Appomattox Co, VA, at age 49. Born about 1660, in Charles Cittie Shire (sic), Colonial Virginia, the daughter of English immigrants, Major John and Jane (Mosby, Gregory, Parsons) Stith Sr; a family of much notoriety and wealth in the flourishing James River tobacco plantations of seventeenth century Virginia. At the age of twenty one, Anne met and married the elder English gentryman, Colonel Robert Bolling, Sr. and made her home at the opulent Kippax Plantation. Over looking the south bank of the Appomattox River, this plantation house was not unlike the royal estates of England. It was in these old mansions a generation lived in lordly manner, and entertained with lavish hospitality. It was here, at Kippax Plantation, that Anne and the Colonel raised their nine children; Jane Bolling (b. 1682), Robert Bolling Jr. (1682–1749), married Anne Mary Cocke; (Robert was the grandfather of Beverley Randolph, the eighth Governor of Virginia); Stith Bolling (1686–1727), married Elizabeth Hartwell; Edward Bolling (1687–1720), married Ms. Slaughter; Anne Bolling (1690–1750), married Robert Wynne; Drury Bolling (1695–1726), married Elizabeth Meriwether (NOTE: it is the daughter of Drury and Eliz. that is [the only] Ann Meriwether); Thomas Bolling (1697–1734); Agnes Bolling (1700–1762), married Richard Kennon; Mary "Molly" Bolling (b. 1702), married Andrew Baker. Her death came at an early age and in 1709, only 49 years of age, Anne was buried at her beloved Kippax Plantation, the final resting place of many Bolling and Rolfe descendants. The foregoing biographical information is a compilation of historical data as found in various writings of the era and not one particular source. § By C. Hileman. Her husband Robert died on July 17, 1709 according to the diary of Robert Bolling. However, in the same printed volume he mentions Anne (Stith) Bolling on February 24, 1711 on page 305 of the book The Secret Diary of William Byrd of Westover. Here is what he wrote, "Mr. Drury Stith called on his way over the river where he was going to see his sister Bolling who was sick." Then according to the annotation at the bottom of the page it points out that, "Anne (Stith), widow of Colonel Robert Bolling." So she at the very least lived beyond Feb. 24, 1711 and most likely beyond the scope of Byrd's diary because he no doubt would have mentioned her passing if she had died before Sept. 29, 1712, the last date of his diary between 1709-1712. This valuable info was supplied to me by FAG member Eric Bruno Borgman (#46808488).1 |
