He will be remembered for his passion for the sea, where he was a career merchant marine. He was an animal lover, a man with a big heart, who could not turn away a stray. Survivors include his daughter, Ramona Chandler and husband Jim of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Kendall; two sisters, Sandra Stallings and husband Ray and Eloise Peters and husband Carl; a brother-in-law, Al Squires; a sister-in-law, Trudy Alis as well as many devoted nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2009, at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Pastor Kevin Tremper will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
