Joynes he was clerk of the Confederate War Department, author of textbooks translated from Latin, French and Greek, professor in various colleges in Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina, including William & Mary in Williamsburg (where in the Wren Building his name appears on a marble plaque honoring professors and students who fought for the Confederacy). He also helped organize Withrop College for women in Rock Hill, SC.1,2 |
