He was married to Rachel Puesey (daughter of William Puesey and Nancy Unknown) on 27 Feb 1822 in Accomack County, Va.. Rachel Puesey was born about 1806 in Accomack County, Va.. She died in 1843 in Accomack County, Va.. James Sturgis Stringer Ames and Rachel Puesey had the following children:
