In 1826 Hannah Elliss was appointed guardian of William James Elliss, son of William Elliss, and in 1827 she was appointed guardian of Matilda Anne Elliss and Jesse L. Elliss. The fact that she was appointed their guardian means that they were all less than 14 years of age.1
Land sold*23 January 1846She sold land on 23 January 1846 at tract Poor Hall, Pitt's Creek Hundred, Worcester Co, MD. Avery J. William Ellis was possessed of 100 acres of tract Poor Hall in 1783, according to that years tax list. A Joshua Dickerson was possessed of 75 acres of Poor Hall. There were Marshalls paying taxes in Pitts Creek Hundred in 1783. A Thomas Marshall owned land called Conveniency and Rudder. In 1777 Thomas Marshall sold land from these tracts to Esme Marshall and John Drummond Marshall. Another deed made by Thomas Marshall in Worcester County in 1777 was to Purnell Brittingham. This land bounded on that of Nehemiah Dickerson. It is not known if Nehemiah Dickerson was related to Josiah Dickerson, who owned land in Poor Hall in 1783, but it's possible that the land of the Ellises, Marshalls and Dickersons were situated near one another, explaining William Ellis' marriage to Johannah Marshall.3
