And John Chelton presenting himself as one of his brothers & having also another brother called Stephen Chelton (which came over the Bay) power from him before Mr. John Andrews & Nicholas Hudson witnessed to take the whole estate into his custody, and John Chelton petitioning to the Court to be invested with the said estate, Capt. Wm. Spencer acknowledging in open court to be scurity to the Court, that the said John Cheslton is brother to the said Geo; Chelton; it is therefore ordered that Nicholas Hudson & Tho: Gettings shall forthwith deliver up the said George Chelton's estate unto John Chelton and he to pay all just debts. Georege Chelton dec'd owed John Dolby 6,500 lbs tobacco, Isaac Foxcrot 2,000 lbs tobacco, Cornelius Berry assignee of Hen: Armitradinge 300 lbs tobacco, Rich: Gilbert 300 lbs tobacco, Thomas Bullock 800 lbs tobacco, Thos: Foscue 100 lbs tobacco, and Nicholas Hudson 670 lbs tobacco, Will: Melinge 846 lbs tobacco for clerk fees, Arthur Uppshott 200 lbs tobacco for a sheet to winde him in and 30 lbs tobacco for 3 gallons of cider at this burial.6 
Est settm't17 December 1666His estate was settled on 17 December 1666 at Accomack Co, VA. John Chilton was invested with the estate of his brother George Chilton in Northampton County on 28 November 1666. On 30 November this order was assigned to Mr. William Mellinge, who requested Chilton's estate in Accomack County. Noting that Mellinge had posted bond, it was so ordered. In his will, George Chelton had named Nicholas Hudson and Thomas Gittings executors in trust to surrender his estate to his brothers. John Chelton presented himself as a brother empowered by another brother, Stephen Chelton, who "came over the Bay," to take the estate into custody as witnessed by Jno. Andrews and Nich. Hudson. John Chelton petitioned for the estate, with Capt. Wm. Spencer attesting and posting security that John Chelton was brother to George. Ordered that Nicholas Hudson and Thomas Gittings deliver the estate to John Chelton, who posted security and paid court costs. Copied by Will. Mellinge, Northampton Clerk.
Note written by John Chelton assigned all interest in "this order" to William Mellinge, Gentleman, except for a mare, a serge coat and a white hat. Signed 30 November 1666, John (I) Chelton. Witnesses: Jno. Stringer and Dan. Neech.7
