Birth*7 June 1915Della was born on 7 June 1915 at Accomack Co, VA. The assumpton that Della May was born a Justice is based on the fact that in the 1930 census her step-father Dollie J. Northam, said he was first married at age 21 which puts his marriage to Mary Adelaide Hall at circa 1918 (since he was born in 1897) and Della was born in 1915. However, Della was shown as a Northam and a daughter of his in both the 1920 and 1930 census. So the assumpton is she was his step-daughter and since she was only 5 years old in 1920 and only about 3 years old in 1918 when her mother married Dollie Northam, she may have been told or assumed she was born a Northam..2
Census w/mother*1920Della was listed with her mother in the census of 1920 at Atlantic District, Accomack Co, VA. The household was headed by D.J. Northam, a 24 year old barber. Listed with him were Adelia Northam, a 27 year old wife and Dela Northam, a 5 year old daughter.3
Census w/mother1930Della was listed with her mother in the census of 1930 at Hancock Street, 2nd Ward, Chester, Delaware Co, VA. The household was headed by Dollie J. Northam, a 33 year old barber, who first married at age 21. Listed with him were Adelaide E. Northam, a 37 year old wife & seamstress, who first married at age 24; and Della M. Northam, a 14 year old daughter.4
Census w/husband*1940Della was listed with her husband in the census of 1940 at Maple Ave, Rural, Delaware Co, PA. The household was headed by Robert Aikins, a 30 year old lab technician, born in PA. Listed with him was Della Aikins, a 24 year old wife, born in VA.5

Northam, 74, showed her as the wife of Mr. Dollie Northam, of Hallwood, who died at her home Monday morning, February 8th. She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. S.C. Hall and was born and reared at Parksley. She had made her home at Hallwood for the past eighteen years. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, Temperanceville, conducted by Rev. Frank Clarke and interment was in Downings Cemetery, Oak Hall.
