Anecdote*1820 Robert and his family lived at "Tarso", inherited from his uncle, John Nairn in 1771. Will dtd 5/26/1814 Som. Robert is shown paying the 1783 taxes. Members of the family continued at "Tarso" until Robert's grandson sold it to Isaac T. Marshall. 1810 census shows him at Pocomoke Hundred, Somerset as 45+, with 1F10-16, 1F16-26, and 1F45+. Ennumerated on either side are Isaac Riggin and Noah Riggin, Martha Hall, Sarah Riggin and then the household of his son, Robert N. Marshall. A Robert Marshall was a Private, Somerset Militia, Princess Anne Battalion, St. Asaph's Co., 1780. He      took the Oath of Allegiance in Worchester Co. in 1778 before the Hon. James Selby. (Henry C. Peden, Jr., Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Cos. MD, Willow Bend, Westminster, MD, 1999, p. 188).1

In 1801, John Stevens, Esq. and his wife Frances deeded to her son Thomas Marshall their interest in "Carthegenia." (Dorchester Co. land records 19.185)      1802, Thomas Marshall and his wife Brittania sold "Carthegenia" to William McDonald & James McDonald (Dorchester Co. land records 19.179); Thomas later registers a mortgage for the property. In 1804, the lands of Thomas Marshall are sold for debt, land was recovered by Theophilus Marshall. (Dorchester Co. land records 21.77). Divorce decree uses the word "children."1

Anecdote*1783 The 1783 Dorchester tax list shows that he and John were in possession of a tract of land in the Middle District called "Carthegenia Point." 1783 Dorchester Tax List shows him with "Marshalls Chance," "Marshalls Venture," 36 3/4A "Cartheginea" all in Middle District. He is shown as 'agent' for James Marshall for land in Middle District. Theophilus and Levin were named "next of kin" in
the administration of their uncle, Esme's, estate, 1784 Worcester Co., MD. He applied in March, 1787 for a license to keep an ordinary at his house in New Market. (James Marshall's notes: Dorchester Minutes, p. 108, March, 1787). 1790 census of Dorcester Co. with 2 males +16, 3 females -16, 4 females +16, and 9 slaves. 1800 census, Dorchester Co., MD: Theo. Marshall 3M-10, 2M10-16, 1M16-26, 1M45+, 2F10-16, 1F16-26, 1F26-45, 10 slaves. His only known children are William and John; however, his 1790 and 1800                                              household suggests he had other children. No death record found.1
