Clegg this said land and his heirs and one Negro Man by the name of Jacob. I give unto my daughter Lovey Mathews one Negro man by the name of Tobey. I give unto my granddaughter Carline M. Clegg four Negroes named as follows Harrey, Sarah, George and Elizabeth. I give unto my granddaughter Rosey A. Clegg four Negroes named as follows Rosey, Joe, Little Easter and Custis. I give unto my grandson Leonard Roberts one Negro boy by the name of Smith. I give unto my grandson William J. Roberts one Negro boy by the name of John. Friend Jacob Nottingham Senr, executor. Land inherited*1792He inherited land in 1792 at tract A43, Bradford's Neck, Accomack Co, VA. In 1790 Zephaniah died leaving a widow Elizabeth and five children. Two years later (1792) the land was surveyed for a division and found to contain 430 acres of upland and 108 acres of marsh; it was divided among the five children by east-to-west lines, Lot No. 1 being the one next to Upshur. The recipients in order were: Mary, Esther, Jane, Abel and Elizabeth. Mary's part included the site of the (1950) residence of James B. King, together with the land across the neck road to the creek, and Esther received the part with the home buildings, and was the only part traced further by Whitelaw.5

Signed: Abel Bradford & Sally (her X mark) Bradford. At a court held on 25 Sept 1809 Abel Bradford & Sally his wife acknowledged this deed to John Garrison and it was ordered to be recorded. Sally being first privately examined apart from her husband as the law directs and voluntarily consenting thereto.6

Witt: Thomas Smith of Jonathan, Mary Smith and Ann Bagg. Signed: Abel Bradford & Sarah (her X mark) Bradford. At a court held on 29 July 1811 Abel Bradford & his wife Sarah acknowledged their deed to Thomas Bradford of Edmund. Bradford for 65 pounds spice current money of Virginia, a tract of land in St. George Parish, in Bradfords Neck, being a part of the tract whereon the said Abel Bradford now resides containing 25 acres bounded southerly by the lands of John Bundick, which he holds in right of his wife Jane, westerly by the lands of the said Thomas A. Bradford, northerly by the lands of heirs of John Garrison late dec'd and easterly by the Broadwater. Witt: Polly Bradford, Maria Bradford & Sally T. Bradford. Signed: Abel Bradford & Sarah (her X mark) Bradford. Whereas Sarah Bradford could not conveniently travel to the court to make acknowledgment of the said conveyance, William Parramore Senr, William Parramore Junr and Thomas Parker gentlemen, Justices of Acc Co, were directed to obtain her acknowledgment and return it to the court.8 
Land sold28 December 1812He sold land on 28 December 1812 at tract A43, Bradford's Neck, Accomack Co, VA. Thomas A. Bradford of Acc County bought from Abel Bradford & Sarah his wife of the same place for 76 pounds 10 shillings all the remainder of the tract of land where the said Abel now resides (a part of which he heretofore sold to the said Thomas A. Bradford) bounded on the north by heirs of Jno Garrison, on the east by the lands of Thomas A. Bradford, on the south by the lands of Jno Bundick which he holds in right of his wife Jane & on the west by Matchipungo Creek containing 25 acres. Witt: Polly Bradford, Maria Bradford, Jacob Bradford and Margaret Bradford. Signed: Abel Bradford (only). On 28 Apr 1813 it was ordered that Sarah Bradford was to be privately examined apart from Abel Bradford her husband and be made known to her the contents of the annexed deed. She acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and that she made the acknowledgment freely and voluntarily without the persuasions or threats of her said husband. Signed: Jno Cropper and John A. Bundick. On 25 Apr 1814 the acknowledgment was ordered to be recorded.9 
Will - Mentioned in*9 June 1818Abel was mentioned in a will on 9 June 1818 at Accomack Co, VA. In his will Thomas A. Bradford gave daughter Sally T. Bell my plantation called "Lobster" that formerly belonged to John Onley & $700 in bonds. To daughter Maria Stewart the land that I bought of Thomas H. Bradford & the land I bought of Thomas Joynes containing 120 acres & $400 in bonds. At the death of my wife, to Aley T. Bradford the land I bought of Abel Bradford containing 60 acres & also 100 acres to be laid off adjoining the heirs of John Garrison dec'd of the land where I now live & $400 in bonds. To wife Aley Bradford ½ of the remainder during her life. To daughter Polly Bradford balance of land not before given & the part her mother holds during her life, except the rights that I hold on Revells Island, which I leave to the whole of my children. Remainder to daughter Polly Bradford. Daughter Polly Bradford Extr. Witt: Jacob Bradford, Richard Read, James Garrison & Elijah Lilliston.10
