Will - Father's*31 March 1703John was named in his father's will on 31 March 1703 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son John in the will of Phillip Jacob, wife Martha.2
Land bought*1712He bought land in 1712 at tract N66, between Bridgeton & Marionville, Northampton Co, VA. In 1663 Richard Jacob (wife Mary) left to his son William, saying the land was on Charity's Branch which would be the southern main head branch of Church Creek and which also was the south bounds of tranct N65. 1703 After the death of William Jacob, an Esau Jacob assumed the title and he now left the land to his mother Ann Stott for life and then to his sister Ann Dolby the wife of Thomas. 1710 Ann Dolby left to her husband Thomas. Whitelaw then states that in 1711 the court gave the title to Abraham Jacob, reciting that Richard Jacob had left the land entailed to his son William, but confused the relationship between Abraham and William, saying Abraham was William's eldest brother. However, William's elder brother Abraham was shown to be a dec'd son in Richard's will. Instead Abraham was the eldest son of William's older dec'd brother Thomas. Then in 1712 Abraham and Mary Jacob sold the upper 150 acres to John Jacob and three years later Abraham alone sold him the balance, and John Jacob thus became possessed of the whole tract as shown on the patent map.4
Will*8 February 1728/29John made a will on 8 February 1728/29 at Northampton Co, VA. To my loving wife Mary the plantation whereon I now live during her life and then to my son William, the bounds being between Carytie Branch and the next northerly branch, and for want of William's heirs to my son Thomas. To my son Philip the 150 A. I bought of Abraham Jacob joining on Arthur Upshur's land. To my son Esau 150 A. joining on the eastern side of the land given to my son Philip running along Walters Branch. To my son Isaac 150 A. joining on John Dolby northerly and southerly on the branch being the line between my wife Mary and my son Isaac, but for want of Isaac's heirs to my son Thomas. To wife Mary n. Nan. To my granddau. Mary Jacob (under 12) the dau. of John Jacob, Jr. To my dau. Elisha Smaw. To dau. Martha Mapp. If their mother dies, my four sons Philip, Esau, Thomas and Isaac to be at age at 18, otherwise at 21. Wife extrx. Berry Floyd, Jonathan Stott, and John Roberts, Jr. overseers. Witt: Jonathan Stott, David Bell, Daniel Stott.3
Death*before 10 February 1729/30John died before 10 February 1729/30 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated..5
Land left*1730He left land in 1730 at tract N66, between Bridgeton & Marionville, Northampton Co, VA. In 1730 John Jacob (wife Mary) devised his land as follows: to his son Isaac (if no heirs to son Thomas) the north 150 acres; to his wife Mary and then to their son William the next land, which was the home place, later found to contain 200 acres; to his son Phillip the western 150 acres; and to his son Esau the eastern 150 acres.4
