Guardian - named as* | 30 November 1835 | Arthur was named as a guardian on 30 November 1835 at Accomack Co, VA. Margaret Badger, orphan of Ezekiel, chose Arthur Kelly her guardian.2 |
Marriage* | 30 November 1835 | He married Margaret A. Badger, daughter of Ezekiel (of Thomas) Badger and Mary 'Polly' Dunton, on 30 November 1835 at Accomack Co, VA. Geodiah Bell was the security on the M.L.B. of Arthur Kelly and Margaret Badger, ward of said Arthur Kelly (from the original M.L.B.) The original minister's return showed the same information with a marriage date of 3 Dec 1835. (NOTE: Turman mistakenly showed her as Margaret Badger, widow instead of ward, on the MLB and as Margaret Boggs on the minister's return.)3,4 |
Anecdote* | 1839 | There were Boggs and Badger families in Accomack County recorded in the 1810, 1820 and 1830 censuses. They all lived in St Georges Parish. In 1838 a Robert Badger popped up across the bay in Gloucester County. The tax list indicates he was situated 13 miles SE of the county courthouse. The next year Arthur Kelly and family removed to Gloucester County, and situated 15 miles SE of the courthouse, 2 miles give or take from Robert Badger. Robert Badger stayed put in Gloucester County until the 1850s. The 1850 census says he was born in Virginia around 1805. Margaret Kelly is listed as age 15-19 in the 1840 census. Arthur's age was under-reported, maybe Margaret's was too. In 1850 she self-reported as 30 and in 1860 as 40 and remarried.5 |
Census head* | 1840 | Arthur was listed as a head of household in the census of 1840 at Gloucester Co, VA.6 |
Death* | 1844 | He died in 1844 at Gloucester Co, VA.6 |
Anecdote | 28 September 2016 | On 28 Sep 2016 Bill Kelly (bk54@verizon.net) reported that he and his brother Peter Kelly, working with their father William Kelly (1925-2016)'s DNA, got a yDNA match with Charles Stewart Kelly, an Accomack Co, VA, Kelly, born in 1950. Their last common ancestor was Timothy Kelly (1712-1782) which proved that Arthur of Isaiah of Timothy was William Arthur Kelly Sr. (1835-1920)'s biological father, which had been in question. Besides confirming Bill, Peter and Charles' pedigrees, this and the fact that earlier yDNA results showed Elmer Kelly, an Accomack Co, VA, Kelly born 1944, an 8th generation male line descendant of Edmond Kelly (1702-1762) and Eddie Kelly, an Accomack Co, VA, Kelly, born 1950, a 9th generation male line descendant of John Kelly (1690-1763) (Edmond & John being sons of the first John Kelly (1660-1724) of Accomack Co, VA) match each other but they do not match Bill, Peter & Charles proves that Timothy Kelly was not a biological grandson of the first John Kelly. The likeliest case being that Timothy's father Thomas Kelly (1685-1727) was not a biological son of the first John Kelly. Additional support for this is Thomas' relatively shabby treatment in John Kelly's will. Thomas was the first born and possibly a son of John Kelly's wife Sarah Bell before she married John Kelly. |

Anecdote* | 1839 | There were Boggs and Badger families in Accomack County recorded in the 1810, 1820 and 1830 censuses. They all lived in St Georges Parish. In 1850 she self-reported as 30 and in 1860 as 40 and remarried.3 |

Anecdote* | 27 February 1619 | On 27 Feb 1618/9 Nicholas Granger was among the 75 boys and 25 wenches listed in the Bridewell Royal Hospital records to go to Virginia. These were children 8 to 16 found running wild in the streets of London, sleeping under stalls and begging, who had bee committed to Bridewell, which served as a house of correction. They were mainly homeless waifs, although some probably were petty pilferers. One of the ships that brought them to Virginia was the (ITAL:)George(:ITAL), 150 tons. William Evans, master, which left England in Mar 1618/9 and arrived in Virginia in May 1619. By Feb 1624/5 there were alive in Virginia very few young men who can be identified as Bridwell Boys and of these there are but two, Nicholas Granger and Nathaniel Tatum, from whom descent can be proved.2 |
Muster* | February 1624/25 | Nicholas was listed in the Muster of February 1624/25 at Eastern Shore, VA. He was shown as Niccolas Granger, age 15 in Capt. William Epes' Muster, who came in the George in 1618.3 |
Marriage* | circa 1627 | He married Elizabeth (-----) circa 1627. Nicholas Granger's wife was probably the Elizabeth Gringer, aged 33 who made a deposition in Mar 1634/5 in N'hamp County..4 |

Anecdote | 1640 | In his will of 1 Apr 1639 Nicholas Harwood remembered goodman Grainger for taking care of him and left funds to buy a cowcalfe for Nicholas Grander, my godson. A certificate for 200 acres, naming his wife Elizabeth as one of the headrights, was given by court to Nicholas Grainger on 3 Aug 1640. On 1 Oct 1647 in N'hamp Co Nicholas Granger deeded a heifer to his daughter Christian Granger. This was witnessed by Henry Armitradinge, who was involed is a similar deed the same day. Those deeds were in contemplation of marriage.2 |
Land patented* | 20 September 1647 | Nicholas patented land on 20 September 1647 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Nicholas Grander patented 350 acres in N'hamp Co near the head of Nassawattocks Creek, adjacent to land of Stephen Horsey, but this land apparently was already included in a patent to Col. Francis Yeardley and was lost. He also had another patent for 350 acres on Pungoteague River and Pocomeck Creek which he assigned to Nicholas Waddilow, which is mentioned in a new patent to Waddilow on 2 Apr 1655..2 |
