Biography*Edward Wright, who was named as a servant by Amy Fowkes in her will of 1678. Edward Right's name first appeared as a headright for Devereau Brown in 1670 (Cert. and Rights, p. 42). He had apparently married by 1676, when his name appeared on the tax list (Tithables, p. 18). He, or another Edward Right, was given as a headright by William Anderson in 1680 (Cret. and Rights, p. 54). His name was on the tax lists two other times, in 1688 and in 1692 (Tithables, p. 43 and p. 54). On 1 June 1703, Edward Write was discharged from paying taxes "this present year" (Orders 1703-1709, p. 1). This record says he was "by the hand of God visited with a grevious Sickness for Eleven months past and was wholly uncapable to maintain himself and family by his Labor". If he were Mary Wright's husband, he was deceased by 5 October 1708, when she was presented by the Grand Jury for having had a bastard child (Orders 1703 - l709, p. 123).
Birth*circa 1645Edward was born circa 1645.
Marriage*circa 1695He married Mary Wright, daughter of Henry Wright I and Ann Fooks, circa 1695. No record of a marriage for Mary Wright has been found. That she had at least two sons, both Wrights, is proved by the land records. She could have married an Edward Wright, who was named as a servant by Amy Fowkes in her will of 1678..
Death*circa 1703Edward died circa 1703. Edward Wright likely died soon after the records show he was ill in June 1703..

Biography*A William Wright was named as a headright for Richard Bundick when the latter patented 1400 acres in Parkers Neck in 1664 (Nugent I. p. 524). This William Wright had apparently married by 1676, when his name first appeared on the Accomack County tax lists (Tithables, p.17). He registered his cattle mark on 28 February 1689 as: "a swallow forked on ye right eare and cropt on ye left (Wills & Deeds 1676 - 1690, p. 519).
Birth*circa 1650William was born circa 1650.
Will - Witnessed*4 April 1693He witnessed a will on 4 April 1693 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Samuel Taylor, Nathaniel Tunnell, Will: Wright, James Glenn & Thomas Conway witnessed the will of John Wallop, alisa Wadlow.1

Biography*Henry Wright, the eldest son of Mary Wright and an unknown father, was born circa 1700. He was of age by 1726, when he deeded his brother William part of their mother's land, but apparently unmarried, as the deed was not co-signed by a wife. Henry Wright was living in Essex County, Virginia, on 8 June 1728, when he gave Henry Scarburgh his Power of Attorney, to act for him in Accomack County (Deeds, Wills & Etc 1715 - 1729, part 2, p. 249). Comfort Scarburgh and Ann Scarburgh were witnesses to this document. It is possible this Henry Wright married first in Essex County and lived there. However, Winfred Scarburgh died testate in Accomack County by 30 November 1756, naming Nanny Wright and a grandson as Henry Wright in her will (Wills 1752 - 1757, p. 358). Her will indicates Henry Wright had married Nanny (Ann?) Scarburgh and had a son Henry by 1756. No record has been found of the death of this Henry Wright in Accomack County or elsewhere in Virginia. That he had one son, who inherited his mother Mary Wright's land is apparent, and a second son from later deed and survey records.

Birth*circa 1700Henry was born circa 1700 at Accomack Co, VA.
Marriage*1735He married Ann 'Nanny' (34) Scarburgh, daughter of Col. Henry (9) Scarburgh I and Winifred 'Winnifrit' Taylor, in 1735.2

Married Namecirca 1725 As of circa 1725,her married name was Wright.

Land sold*27 November 1746She sold land on 27 November 1746 at tract A116, Rue, Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Edward Hickman and his wife Elizabeth, purchased for 2 pounds, from Mary Wright, widow, the 50 acres "plantation where William Wright dec'd formerly lived" (Acc Deeds 1737-1746, p. 490). Since deeds do not normally name the wife when land is bought, this deviation indicates that Edwar's wife had been Elizabeth Wright, and she and her husband were buying her parent's land. A family connection is alsoo shown by the small price paid for the land. These 50 acres (actually 56) were located at the present-day Rue and formed a triangle with US 13 on one side and the road from Rue to Hopeton a second leg of the triangle.2,3

Birth*circa 1716Edward was born circa 1716 at Accomack Co, VA.1
Will - Father's*20 August 1738Edward was named in his father's will on 20 August 1738 at Accomack Co, VA. In his will Henry Hickman, wife no name, sons Henry, George & Edward & and grandson Richard. He also mentioned 4 sons & 3 daughters, but did not name them. John would have been the 4th son.3
Marriage*circa 1744He married Elizabeth Wright, daughter of William Wright and Mary (-----), circa 1744 at Accomack Co, VA.4,5
Land sold*28 August 1744Edward Hickman sold land on 28 August 1744 at Cedar Island, Accomack Co, VA. Henry Hickman, George Hickman and Edward Hickman sold this tract to Ephraim Wessells for 30 pounds, a tract of 50 aces called Cedar Island "lying at the northermost end of Jobs Island running toward Roger Hickman's Parcel. Another deed, recorded in Sept 1744, sold 10 additional acres on Cedar Island to William Young Junr. This 10 acres was called the residue of 60 acres, 50 having been sold to Ephraim Wessells, and appears to have been the entire inherited tract.6
Land bought*27 November 1746He bought land on 27 November 1746 at tract A116, Rue, Accomack Co, VA. These 50 acres (actually 56) were located at the present-day Rue and formed a triangle with US 13 on one side and the road from Rue to Hopeton a second leg of the triangle.5,7
Land bought6 August 1754He bought land on 6 August 1754 at tract A116, Rue, Accomack Co, VA. Edward Hickman, planter, purchased another 50 acres of this tract from William & Elizabeth Miles for 16 pounds. This strip of land running east-west, located south of the 1746 purchase and adjacent to the 1,000 acre tract that his grandfather William had patented in 1667. The deed shows the land bordered on the west by land formerly owned by Joseph Hickman.8,7
Death*before 30 October 1797He died before 30 October 1797 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Edward Hickman was granted to George Hickman, son of Edward with John Teackle Sr. & Abel Wright securities.9
Land Division of*10 February 1798He was named in a division of land on 10 February 1798 at Accomack Co, VA. Edward Hickman's children were named in the division of his land in settling his estate. The northern 56 acres was divided into 3 portions, as was the southern 50 acre strip. Son Richard received 17 1/2 acres of the 56 acres, son George received 18 1/2 acres of the 56 acres, and Stephen & Robert Hickman jointly received 20 acres of the 56 acres and it is assumed they were the sons of a dec'd child who had died before Edward. The 56 acres that were divided into these 3 tracts eventually became owned by Zepporah Ann Hickman Morten, seemingly the orphan daughter of Richard Hickman and were sold by her and her husband Thomas Morten of Somersette County, New Jersey, to James Rew of Accomack County in 1830 (Acc Deeds 1828-1830, p. 446). Henry Hickman received 15 acres of the southern 50 acre tract and the deed names his wife Scissey Hickman. This was probably Lissa Bayly that Henry is recorded as marrying in 1789. Thomas Hickman received 16 acres of the southern 50 acre tract and Dennis Hickman received the remaining acres of the southern 50 acre tract although his deed is not included with the 5 recorded in the division of 1798. Dennis & wife Bridget signed the other deeds and the next year (1799) they made a deed selling his brother Thomas Hickman's 18 1/2 acres for 55 pounds "The whole that fell to him by the death of his father" (Acc District Court Wills & Deeds, 1789-1799, p. 445). In 1806 Dennis and Bridget signed another deed selling Thomas (of Edward) the 3 acres of land that was Dennis' share of his late brother Henry Hickman's land.10,11

Biography*Henry Wright, inherited circa 150 acres of Mary Wright's land from his father. He apparently married later in life. That he was married by 29 November 1769 is shown by a suit Henry Wright and wife Rachel brought against "John Taylor (Church)" on that date for a debt (Acc Co Orders 1769 - 1770, p. 276). The will of John Pettit, written 20 December 1784, probated on 27 April 1785, named a daughter as Rachel Wright and made "son-in-law Henry Wright" one of his executors (Acc Co Wills 1784 - 1787, p. 126). Henry Wright bought no land. On 24 February 1784, he deeded 6 acres of Mary Wright's land, bordered on the north by Edward Hickman's land, to William Wright and his wife Comfort "for their natural lives" (Deeds 1783 - 1788, p. 60). Henry Wright had died intestate by 27 February 1794, when his estate was. administered to his son Henry Wright (Orders 1793 - 1796, p. 157). A survey of his land had been made on 8 December 1793, for a division among his seven children (Surveyors Record #1, p. 251). The tract totaled 140 acres, excluding 5 acres(6 acres?) that would revert back on the death of his brother, William Wright, Senr. A widow's dower was here given as 42 acres.
Birth*circa 1735Henry was born circa 1735 at Accomack Co, VA.
Will - Grmoth's*8 September 1756Henry was named in his grandmother's will on 8 September 1756 at Accomack Co, VA. He was named as a grandson Henry Wright in the will of Winifred Scarburgh, who also named Nanny Wright in her will..1
Marriage*circa 1768He married Rachel Pettitt, daughter of John Pettitt and Mary Scott, circa 1768.3
Death*before 27 February 1794Henry died before 27 February 1794 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Henry Wright was named to settle the estate of Henry Wright. Thomas Hickman, Constable & William Evans were the securities..4

Biography*In 1726 Henry Wright deeded his brother William Wright part of their mother's land. On 24 Feb 1784 his brother Henry Wright deeded him and his wife Comfort for their natural lives 6 acres of Mary Wright's land, bordered on the north by Edward Hickman's land (Acc Co Deeds 1783-1788, p. 60). A William Wright, Senr was listed in the 1800 census for Accomack County, Accomack Parish, as over 45 years of age. He was listed again as over 45 in 1810. William Wright, Senr was ordered to be tax free on 28 December 1812 "by reason of age and infirmity" (Acc Co Orders 1812 - 1814, p.194). He apparently died between 1812 and 1820. On 9 May 1800, William Wright, Senr and wife Asha deeded 8 acres for 30 pounds to Thomas Justice, Sea Captain, land near the head waters of Gargatha, bordered east by George Hickman, south by the road leading to Gilford, west by Thomas Right's lands, and north by Solomon Baker (District Court Deeds 1800 - 1806, p. 138).
