Anecdote*1835 During the first years of their married life George B. Mapp and his wife Ann James Edmunds Mapp lived at the Wharton Farm, also know as the Nannie Wharton Place, which had been willed to Nannie (Wharton) Edmunds by her brother William Wharton, and was willed to Ann James (Edmund) Mapp by her father, James Edmunds. George & Ann Mapp attended the Methodist Church know as Burton's Chapel. It was named for Captain Thomas Burton, who in 1801 gave the site of a Methodist Church know as Burton's Chapel. In 1834, George B. Mapp was a trustee of Burton's Chapel when the site of the church was deeded to the Philadelphia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church by Garrison Burton, son of Capt. Thomas Burton. He was also a trustee when the new church was dedicated on 15 Jan 1871. It was known as Burton-Oak Grove Church and later as Oak Grove Methodist Episcopal Church South. He was one of the 7 superintendents who served the church Sunday School during the first century of its existance. William Elliott joined Burton's Chapel soon after its founding on 13 Jan 1801 and took with him his Sunday School group which he had formed in 1785. His Sunday School was made up of boys "bound to him until they came to age," girls in his charge, his own children and the children of his neighbors and friends, to whom the Bible was taught for one hour every Sunday afternoon. The Sunday School of Burton-Oak Grove Church has continued to the present day and is believed to the be oldest continuous Sunday School in America.5

Anecdote*3 June 1763 On 3 June 1763 in Accomack Court Luke Luker sued Joseph Custis, Fairfax and William Only, who failed to appear. The judgment against them and Sheriff Charles Stockly was confirmed for £15 with interest from 28 October 1761 (CaSa: 21 Jun 1763).2 
Will*17 December 1773Luke made a will on 17 December 1773 at Accomack Co, VA.
