Biography*According to the 1860 Census, Henry A. Hall was born 1855 and his brother Allen was born 1853. According to Acc marriage records, Allen J. Hall, born 1855, son of Asa and Cordelia Hall married Amanda W. Lewis. However, subsequently Amanda's husband is referred to as Henry A. Hall and in his obituary as Henry Allen Hall. It is therefore assumed that the older brother, Allen, b.c. 1853, died young, and his younger brother Henry A. is the one that married Amanda Lewis, and was listed on the marriage record as Allen J. Hall, subsequently known and referred to as Henry Allen Hall. According to Kirk Mariner's book, Revival's Children, Henry A. Hall, one of the founding memebers of Hall's Chapel Church in Messongo, donated the land on which the church was built. It was originally organized in 1886 by members of the Methodist Church in Sanford. The church was known as the Messongo Baptist Church until 1887, when it was renamed Hall's Chapel after Henry A. Hall. The Sanford Church records shows a Herny A. Hall on the roll in 1908 and 1917.

Death*24 August 1922Henry died on 24 August 1922 at Hallwood, Acc Co, VA, at age 68. Captain Henry Allen Hall, son of the late Asa Hall and Cordelia his wife, departed this life on 24 Aug 1922, aged 68 years, 5 months, 11 days (13 Mar 1854). He was born in Sanford, VA, and has lived in Hallwood for the past four years. He was a member of the Hallwood Methodist Protestant Church, and was a good Christian, always found at his place in the church, until the affliction came which caused his death. His last day's work was for the interest of the church, which was on the 4th of July. His suffering was intense, but he bore it with much patience, and was perfectly resigned to the will of God. The funeral services were conducted in the church on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by his pastor, Rev. M.E. Hungerford and assisted by Rev. E.L. Bunce, of Pocomoke City. Survivors, honorary pall-bearers and active pall-bearers were listed (Acc News, 15 Sep 1922)..5

Biography*According to Downing Church records, James A. Hall was a member of Pocomoke Meth Ch at Grotons in 1857. According to Jane Kahler, Big Al Hall organized the Hall Telephone Co, 10 Dec 1897. According to Stella (Marshall) Northam's Thos Sharpley Hall Rpt, Al Hall owned a large part of the Town of Hallwood and a large department store at Hall's Dock near Sanford. Many anecdotes have been told of his shrewdness with money. On one occasion he had hired a new clerk for his store and while he was out of the store attending to his other interests the clerk sold a horse collar, but could not remember the customer's name and did not know to whom it should be charged. Mr. Hall said "Oh, don't worry about that. We will just charge all of our customers with one horse collar and that way we are sure to be paid." He died of dropsy, while on a visit to his brother, Mr. X. Hall of Baltimore. His remains were shipped by rail to Hallwood and he was buried at Parksley.

While a young boy he sailed with his grandfather carrying cargoes to the different ports. For some years he was master of a schooner belonging to Rogers Brothers carrying freight from Finney's Wharf to Baltimore. Later on he loaded and ran his own vessel to Baltimore. He was employed with the steamboat company making trips from Onancock to Baltimore, when the Pennsylvania Railroad Company took over the steamer, and continued with them until the time came for the railroad to lay aside the boats.
