Core of Accomack County, VA was informed that he had been appointed a Cadet in the United Sates and should report to West Point, in the State of New York, between the 1st & 20th of June of 1837. On May 27th 1836 William Thomas Core responded to the Honorable Lewis Cass, Secty. of War, that he accepted the appointment. His father Levin Core also gave consent for his son William Thomas Core to attend West Point. On June 2nd 1836 Henry A. Wise forwarded the acceptance letter of Wm. Core to Hon. Lewis Cass.1
