Biography*On 1 January 1831, Walter Wright and wife Henny sold to Thomas Wright, Senr, 16 acres for $192, his father William's part of his grandfather's land (Deeds 1830 - 1832, p. 90). Walter Wright left all his property to an unnamed wife until his youngest child became 21, without naming his children. From later census records, when his widow Henny was head of a household, they had four children.

Biography*William Wright bought his brother John's part of their father's land on 31 December 1796 (Deeds 1797 - 1800, p. 90), and his brother Henry's part on 25 July 1800 (Deeds 1800 - 1804, p. 82). William Wright, Junr sold both of these tracts to brother Thomas Wright, as 35 acres for 99 pounds 10 shillings, on 31 December 1812 (Deeds 1812 - 1815, p. 57). William Write, "garga", was under 26 years of age in 1800 and 26 to 45 in 1810. In 1820, he was over 45. He was not listed in the census of 1830, indicating he was deceased by that date. He had only one known son.

Land bought*4 August 1832Samuel bought land on 4 August 1832 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Samuel C. White bought part of tract A71, the Margaret Academy part, from William E. Wise and wife Sally. In the early days the south fork of Onancock Creek separating A71 from A63 was known as Jenkins' Branch, much later as Joynes' Branch, and now for some years it appeared in the records as White's Branch, but today the name Joynes' Branch is back in use. In the same year he bought this property, Samuel C. White received a franchise to operate a ferry between Onancock and Norfolk, but how long it continued in service is not known..3 
Land sold6 September 1842He sold land on 6 September 1842 at north of Onancock Creek, Accomack Co, VA. Deed between Samuel C. White and Mary his wife, formerly Mary Chandler, Mitchell Chandler, John G. Chandler, Levin Laylor, Randall C. Revell of Virginia, his wife formerly Virginia Laylor, Richard Deans and Kazieh, his wife, formerly Kazieh Laylor, William Green, his wife Elizabeth, formerly Elizabeth Laylor and Cynthia Laylor of the first part and William Laylor of the other part. Whereas a certain Levin Laylor, father of the said William Laylor did by will executed on the 23rd day of December 1819 and recorded in the county court of Accomack, devise to the said William Laylor, by the name of Garababel William Laylor to Mary Elizabeth Laylor since deceased, a certain tract and parcel of land described in said will to them and their heirs, but if they should die without issue then he devised the same to the children of his brother Arthur Laylor and Kazieh, Mary and John Chandler to be equally divided between them and said parties of the first part have a contingent interest in the aforesaid land, dependant upon the said William Laylor dying without issue, same being willing to release all their interest in said land and said will to William Laylor. Now this deed witnesses that for and in consideration of fifty dollars in hand to the parties of the first part by William Laylor, the reception whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Samuel White and Mary his wife, the same Mary named in the said Levin Laylor’s will, John Chandler also named in said will, and my brother Arthur Laylor’s children named in said will of Levin, Elizabeth, Virginia, Kazieh having since been married as above stated who are the children and heirs of Arthur Laylor, above named in said Levin Laylor’s will, do by these presents, grant, bargain, sell and convey quit claim to and release unto the said William Laylor his heirs and issue, all their rights, title and interest both at law and in equity in proportion … remainder of interest in the tract of land devised to said William Laylor by his father Levin Laylor as aforementioned and situated in Accomack County, Virginia bordered on the north by the land said William Laylor purchased of Elizabeth Revell and the land of Gull Snead and William I. Riley; east by the land of James Bonewell; south by a branch of Onancock Creek, which divides it from the land of Nath Toppery and containing by estimation, one hundred and fifty acres, be the same more or less, together with all the privileges appertaining thereto, in any wise appertaining or belonging to same, and to hold the above grants conveys interest and estate to him the said William J. Laylor and his heirs and issue forever, and they the parties of the first part do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said William J. Laylor and his heirs and issue that they will and their heirs shall defend the title to the above grant interest and estate to the said William J. Laylor and his heirs and issue, free and clear of the claims of themselves and their heirs and all persons, claims by or through them the children of the aforesaid Arthur Laylor, but against the claims of no other persons whatsoever. Stran gave to my sister Jane Stran all my Negroes & their future increase (except Isaac & Esau) & at her death to be free, but if at any time they should be willing to go to a free state, I do hereby set them free. To my nephew William Stran Custis Negro boy Isaac & $400. To my niece Sarah Ann Horsey $400. To my nephew John T. Custis $400. To Eliza Susan Horsey, the daughter of my niece Sarah Ann Horsey, Negro boy Esau & $400, but if she dies before she is 21 of age, then to her mother if living & if not, then to my nephews William Stran Custis & John T. Custis. To my sister Jane Stran my house & lot & the balance of my estate & at her death to Eliza Susan Horsey (under the same conditions as above). Witt: Peter F. Browne, Anabella W. To Margaret Jane Custis, dau of my nephew William Stran Custis my negro slaves Edmund and Mag and the future increase of said Mag, and from and after the death of said Margaret Jane Custis I do emancipate and set free the said slaves Edmund and Mag and the increase of said Mag. Although the said Margaret Jane Custis is now and may continue to be a non-resident of this state, she shall not have the right to remove said Edmund or Mag or increase of said Mag beyond the limits of this state. To William Stran Custis, formerly called John Potter Custis, the son of my nephew William Stran Custis, my negro slaves called Oliver and Henry foe the natural life of said William Stran Custis formerly called John Potter Custis and after his death I do emancipate and free the said slaves Oliver and Henry. To Eliza Susan Custis, wife of William P. Custis, during her natural life, the following slaves and the future increase of the females thereof, namely Lottie, Stephen, Henry, Loury, Esther, John, Tom, Perry, Emory, Louisa and her child Frederic, Jesse, Sarah, Jane, Mary Julia, Ellen, Lizzie Alfred and Bill , and after the death of the said Eliza Susan Custis these slaves and their future increase to be free. To Eliza Susan Custis the farm where I now live, and after her death to her daughter, Elizabeth Jane Custis. All residue not otherwise disposed of to Eliza Susan Custis. Wit: Shalmaneser Davis, E. R. Land inherited*1862She inherited land in 1862 at tract A109A, Stran or Custis Place, Accomack Co, VA. Col. William Stran owned considerable acreage, operated a large mill, and was an influential man in this part of the county during his entire life. He left the home place to his daughters Jane and Polly; he also had another daughter Elizabeth who married William Custis, son of William. In 1837 Mary P. (Polly) Stran sold 130 acres to Major Mason and in 1848 she left the balance of her property to her sister Jane, who in 1862 left to her (great) niece Eliza Susan Custis (husband William P.) for life and then to her daughter Elizabeth Jane Custis. In 1907 the mother and daughter united in a deed to George H. Ross for the house and 250 acres, and the next year he and his wife Mary E. sold 55 1/2 acres to the late Roy D. White, who two years later acquired 5 acres more "on which is situated the old main dwelling." Since 1938 it has been owned by his widow Virginia D. White. Whitelaw shows a piture of the Stran or Custis Place and a lengthly description of the old house.6 
Land sold*1907She sold land in 1907 at tract A109A, Stran or Custis Place, Accomack Co, VA. Elizabeth Susan Custis & her daughter Elizabeth Jane Custis united in a deed to George H. Ross for the house and 250 acres and the next year he and shis wife Mary E. sold 55 1/2 acres to the late Roy D. William Stran owned considerable acreage, operated a large mill, and was an influential man in this part of the county during his entire life. He left the home place to his daughters Jane and Polly; he also had another daughter Elizabeth who married William Custis, son of William. In 1837 Mary P. (Polly) Stran sold 130 acres to Major Mason and in 1848 she left the balance of her property to her sister Jane, who in 1862 left to her niece Eliza Susan Custis (husband William P.) for life and then to her daughter Elizabeth Jane Custis. In 1907 the mother and daughter united in a deed to George H. Ross for the house and 250 acres, and the next year he and his wife Mary E. sold 55 1/2 acres to the late Roy D. White, who two years later acquired 5 acres more "on which is situated the old main dwelling." Since 1938 it has been owned by his widow Virginia D. White. Whitelaw shows a piture of the Stran or Custis Place and a lengthly description of the old house.2

Although the said Margaret Jane Custis is now and may continue to be a non-resident of this state, she shall not have the right to remove said Edmund or Mag or increase of said Mag beyond the limits of this state. To William Stran Custis, formerly called John Potter Custis, the son of my nephew William Stran Custis, my negro slaves called Oliver and Henry foe the natural life of said William Stran Custis formerly called John Potter Custis and after his death I do emancipate and free the said slaves Oliver and Henry. Est Settm't Sister's*29 June 1829She was named in the settlement of her sister's estate on 29 June 1829 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Sally Stran was granted to Jane Stran & Mary P. Stran with John C. Kellam, William Riley, Southey Grinnalds & Samuel Coleburn securities.4 
Land inherited*1829She inherited land in 1829 at tract A109A, Stran or Custis Place, Accomack Co, VA. Col. William Stran owned considerable acreage, operated a large mill, and was an influential man in this part of the county during his entire life. He left the home place to his daughters Jane and Polly; he also had another daughter Elizabeth who married William Custis, son of William. In 1837 Mary P. (Polly) Stran sold 130 acres to Major Mason and in 1848 she left the balance of her property to her sister Jane, who in 1862 left to her niece Eliza Susan Custis (husband William P.) for life and then to her daughter Elizabeth Jane Custis. In 1907 the mother and daughter united in a deed to George H. Ross for the house and 250 acres, and the next year he and his wife Mary E. sold 55 1/2 acres to the late Roy D. White, who two years later acquired 5 acres more "on which is situated the old main dwelling." Since 1938 it has been owned by his widow Virginia D. White. Whitelaw shows a piture of the Stran or Custis Place and a lengthly description of the old house.5

Death*25 May 1903James T. 'Jim Tom' Nock died on 25 May 1903 at Tasley, Accomack Co, VA. Mr. James T. Nock, a worthy and highly respected citizen, brother of Mr. Horace P. Nock, died at his home at Tasley on Monday of cancer of the stomach, aged 55 years. His wife and two small children survive him. His remains were taken to a burial ground near Atlantic for interment on Tuesday. Family records show that he had a son Kerns Nock who was 6 years old in the 1900 census and a daughter Cassie Nock who married a Watson.6
