Anecdote* Ottawa is well supplied with modern and up-to-date stores and the drug store conducted by S. H. Lucas at 318 South Main St. is one of the most completely stocked in this city. A large and complete line of drugs, drug sundries, paints, oils, varnish, school supplies, rubber goods and toilet articles are carried. Owing to this extensive business and Mr. Lucas' long experience in this line, he can buy goods at low prices and sell at figures which his competitor finds hard to equal. This store was established in 1881. Two courteous clerks are in attendance and 2500 square feet of floor space is utilized by the handsomely arranged stock. Mr. S. H. Lucas, the proprietor, was born in Virginia in 1846. He received his education there and moved to this city in 1868, and in 1869 went to work for the drug firm of W. R. Laws and Brothers and has been engaged in the drug business ever since. (Ottawa, IO Newspaper Article provided by Jimmy Matthews.)

My land to brother Gillet Chesser during his natural life and then to his son, William Chesser, but if William die without heirs then to Albert Chesser, son of Daniel. Friend Edward. H. Conquest Exec. 25 Apr 1849. Wit: Richard Conquest, Thomas Bayly of R., James S. Corbin.3

Land sold*4 June 1880He sold land on 4 June 1880 at Accomack Co, VA. Gilbert Chesser and William A. Chesser and his wife Elnora of Camden, New Jersey, sold a 60 acre tract of land near Messongo (west of Mappsville) to James A. Hall for $375. His brother William had owned two 30 acre tracts in the area so this was the same land. The fact that Ann's name did not appear on the deed implies that she was dec'd. Evidently he waited until 3 Dec 1881 to report her death.5
