He was shown as John Thornton the head of HH#63, a 63 year old farmer with real estate valued at $50. Listed with him were Susan Thornton, age 50; Elizabeth Thornton, age 19; and Margaret Thornton, age 8. There cold have been older daughters who had married by 1850. He was 3 households from John D. Thornton, sailor, and 21 households from son Wm. Thornton, farmer..2
Census head1860John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Jno. Thornton the head of HH#1043, a 73 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $50 and personal property valued at $25. Listed with him was Susan Thornton, age 60. This was probably Chincoteague Island..3
Death*before 1870John died before 1870. No record of the death of John Thornton of Wm. has been found, but he had died before the 1870 census was taken. It is known that he had a son, Rev. Wm. P. Thornton, and since the 1830 census shows him age 40-50 with 3 males in household under age 15, it is possible that Revel Thornton, b.c. 1815, was also a son and there were probably two others..
