SCARBOROUGH, GEORGE YEARDLEY - At the age of 88, passed away on July 28, 2013 at Hubbard House Hospice in South Charleston, West Virginia due to complications from a broken hip. He was predeceased by his wife of 50-years, Mary Jane Jessee Scarborough in May of 2007, and survived by his sons Jessee Americus Scarborough, P.E, D.GE of St. Albans, WV and Sergeant First Class Edmund Lee Scarborough of Chicago, IL. He was proud of his naval service during World War II and his Virginia heritage. He was a loving father and husband; he was a good man. George was born in Norton, Virginia, son of George Carson Scarborough and Ethel Vivian Paden Stephens Scarborough. A plank owner aboard the USS Snowden, DE-246, he was a First Class Sonar Petty Officer. After the war, he studied Civil Engineering at the University of Virginia. While his graduation was interrupted by the Korean War, he is accounted as alumni of the Class of '51. George was a registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection Engineering, and a life member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and the National Fire Protection Association. While a resident in Norris, Tennessee, he served as a member of the municipal Water Commission for nearly 20-years. George was a member of the Jamestown Society, The Sons of the American Revolution, The Order of Founders and Patriots of America, the Virginia Society of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Genealogy and History of the Eastern Shore (GHOTES). He was a proud member of the Southwest Virginia "Texas Club." George Yeardley will be buried in the Scarborough family plot of the Highland Cemetery in Norton, Virginia. Published in Knoxville News Sentinel on July 30, 2013.

Land bought*1767He bought land in 1767 at tract A166, New Church, Accomack Co, VA. Lisney and Hannah Gootee sold 45 acres of this tract to James Selby. Then in 1803 Henry Selby sold to Walter Bayne 62 acres which he had inherited from his father James, stating that 45 acres had come from Gilbert Morris to John Gowtee and 20 acres from Dennis Blake to Gowtee; Joseph Gowtee, son of John, had sold both to Robert Pitt III and title had passed to Robert Pitt IV, who had sold to James Selby.2 
Land bought1767He bought land in 1767 at tract A164, north side Pitts Creek near MD-VA Line, Accomack Co, VA. Samuel and Anne Feddeman sold part of this tract to James Slelby, stating that they had bought (no local record) from Jabez Blake as heir of Dennis Blake. Some 26 years later in 1793 Robert Pitt IV and wife Catharine sold the same land to James Selby (also no local record) and in 1818 James Selby had been succeeded by a son Henry Q. Selby left it to his brother James Q. Selby. (NOTE: The assumption is that first mentioned James Selby was a brother of Judge John Selby and the second mentioned James Selby was a son of Judge John Selby.)3 
Land deeded from*1767He deeded land in 1767 at tract A162, Jolly's Neck, Worcester Co, MD. In 1717 John Baily left the 500 acres on Euwamus Creek to his grandson Parker Selby, who was the son of his daughter Tabitha and her first husband Parker Selby, but at the time of the will, she was the wife of John Purnell of Somerset. 1767 James Selby deeded his interest to his brother William, stating that the land had been left by Parker Selby of Worcester to his sons James, John and William, and that John had previously sold his interest to James and William by a General Court deed. 1770 William Selby sold the southern 200 acres to Samuel Wilson, to become the second piece of woodland for A161 as told in that story. As also reported, in 1792 Selby bought the north 46 acres of A161 along the creek west of Selby's Bridge, and as will be reported later, he bought additional land to the eastward of him, and in 1821 he left the whole plantation to his nephew William Selby Tunnell. Selby's wife Sally later married a John Custis. In 1831 643 acres were divided among the heirs of W.S. Tunnell: this piece included at the east end a mill, which first had been called Selby's Mill and later Tunnell's Mill.4

Witt: Thomas Merrill, James Davis, Venny Smith.8 
Death*before 1 May 1798He died before 1 May 1798 at Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that his will was proved. Came John Tunnell and Mary his wife (late Selby).8
