Constable Thomas Hickman1

M, b. circa 1731, d. before 28 July 1807
Last Edited30 Jul 2014
Birth*circa 1731Thomas was born circa 1731 at Accomack Co, VA.1
Marriage*circa 1760He married Leah Fooks, daughter of Daniel Fooks and Sarah Roach, circa 1760.1
Land sold*1761Constable Thomas Hickman sold land in 1761 at Accomack Co, VA. Thomas Hickman and his wife Leah sold land that had belonged to Leah's father Daniel Fooks.2
Security on Admin26 January 1768He was security on the administration of an estate on 26 January 1768 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of William Stakes was granted to Rebecca Stakes with John Sacker Barnes & Thomas Hickman securities.3
Constable appointed*28 December 1769He was appointed Constable on 28 December 1769 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Thomas Hickman when he was appointed "Constable in the Room of (in place of) Babel C. Rodgers."4
Marriage*circa 1770He married (d/o Edward) Hickman, daughter of Edward Hickman and Elizabeth Wright, circa 1770 at Accomack Co, VA. The Robert Hickman and Stephen Hickman, sons of Constable Thomas Hickman by a former marriage, appear to have been the same Robert and Stephen who inherited, together, 1/6 of the real estate of the Edward Hickman who died intestate in 1797. Evidently Edward Hickman had a daughter who predeceased her fahter, and was the mother of Robert & Stephen Hickman. She would have been a sister to Thomas Hickman B.S. who married Constable Thomas Hickman and died before 1785, when he remarried Delaney Lilliston. This would also explain the close ties between these two families.5
Anecdote*between 1770 and 1800 Thomas Hickman's name apears frequently as a witness to wills and the Extr or Admr of estates.6
Security on Admin*28 July 1778Constable Thomas Hickman was security on the administration of an estate on 28 July 1778 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of William Hickman was granted to Isaiah Hickman with Thomas Hickman securities.7
Marriage*3 June 1785He married Delany 'Laney' Lilliston on 3 June 1785 at Accomack Co, VA. Willett Lillaston was the security on the M.L.B. of Thomas Hickman and Dulaney Lillaston..8
Security on Admin27 February 1794Constable Thomas Hickman was security on the administration of an estate on 27 February 1794 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Henry Wright was named to settle the estate of Henry Wright. Thomas Hickman, Constable & William Evans were the securities.9
Constable appointed1803He was appointed Constable in 1803 at Accomack Co, VA. Though not impossible, it seems unlikely that the Thomas Hickman, who was appointed constable in 1769 was the same Thomas Hickman who was appointed in 1803 for a 2 year period and again for the last time in 1805. However, there is not probate record for a Thomas Hickman until the will of Constable Thomas Hickman in 1807.10
Will*7 May 1806Thomas made a will on 7 May 1806 at Accomack Co, VA. To wife Laney land adjoining land of William Warner, George Mills(?) & William Copes & at her death or marriage to sons Robert & Asa. Land to Robert Hickman next to William Wise and land to Asa Hickman next to William Copes. Robert & Asa to pay their brother Stephen Hickman £10 each for his part of the land. To daughter Lenter Wimbrough ... To wife Laney Hickman all my moveable estate & at her death or marriage to my two daughters Hessa Hickman & Peggy Hickman. Witt: Jacob Warner, Margaret Laws & Fanny Ross.11
Death*before 28 July 1807He died before 28 July 1807 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated.11
Est settm't*1 May 1810His estate was settled on 1 May 1810 at Accomack Co, VA. 28 Oct 1807 (Sale), 27 Feb 1809 (Order to Audit), 1 May 1810 (Rec'd) - Savage Crippen & Delany Hickman Admrs. Buyers: widow, Richard Hickman, Robert Hickman & Delany Hickman. Named in settlement: John B. Hickman.12
