Anecdote*1875 Joseph A. Feddeman wrote a letter to his father-in-law Samuel James Slocomb about 1875 in Texas which contained family births, deaths and marriages, evidently copied from a family Bible. In addition he wrote the following (the first page or so must be missing): If there is any particular kind that you want please write me word. I can get from 50 to 100 Scients (sic) if you want them and they will not cost much or scarcely anything. We have a large peach crop. Oats is cut of on account of the drought we had in May. Corn is looking very well, but we have had some very cold nights of late. I work very hard trying to make all I can this year. Our little boy has been very sick for the last four or five weeks. Mary & myself is quite well at present. Mrs. Sallie Slocomb and her daughter Birtie is visiting us at this time. They send their regards to you. They seem to think a great deal of Mary. Birtie is a very fine young lady and stays with us a great deal and is a great deal of company to Mary. Mr. Slocomb, please excuse this horrable writing. I stay by the plough handles so much that I became double fisted and cannot write at all. Nothing more. Your Truly & Obedient. Jos. A. Feddeman.7

This was a lot in Nelsonia, across the road on the north from his father's farm, for it was bordered on the south "by the Public Road from Modest Town to Guilford (via Hell Town)." Apparently he built a home here but rented it for a few years, for his oldest son was born in Onancock in early 1887..3

Bloxom farm, but never lived there. It is believed that this land once belonged to Asa J. Bundick's grandfather and namesake, Asa Baker, and that the latter was buried there. A graveyard has been found on the property and it contains two small stones, which look like foot stones, one labeled A.B. (for Asa Baker) and the other T.B. (for Tabitha Baker, his second wife).
