I give unto my daughter Peggy Williams. I give unto my son Nathaniel Burris all my land and also my Negro man Jacob that he called Great Jacob. I leave all the balance of my estate to be equally divided amongst all my children and grandchildren of Thomas Dunton. My will & desire is that if Jacob ever should sue my estate on the account of Negro by the name of James that my deceased husband Anthony Burris sold some years back for absconding to Philadelphia is that he shall not inherit any part of my estate. I nominate & appoint my son Nathaniel Burris executor. Signed with her mark, Mary Burris. Witnesses: William Jarvis Sr., John Armstrong, William Costin.5

Birth*circa 1725Thomas was born circa 1725 at Accomack Co, VA. 
Marriage*circa 1746He married Mary (71) Senior, daughter of John (26) Senior and Martha Willett, circa 1746.1 
Land bought*1757Thomas Bell bought land in 1757 at tract N12, Capeville, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Esther Savage sold 245 aces of tract N12 to Thomas Bell. This land was west of the Moore land and extended westward along the south side of the Capeville Crossroad. In 1772 Bell left his 'lower plantation' to son Robert. In 1795 after the intestate death of Robert Bell a survey showed 275 acres and the house with 43 acres went to a daughter Betsey who later married Severn E. Nottingham. (NOTE: Whitelaw did not mention the other 232 acres, which evidently went to other children.)2 
Will - Father's12 May 1760Thomas was named in his father's will on 12 May 1760 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son Thomas Bell and given 150 acres which I bought of George Green in the will of Thomas Bell.3 
Will*21 June 1772Thomas made a will on 21 June 1772 at Northampton Co, VA. To loving wife Mary use of entire estate during her widowhood, and to rent my lower plantation to my son Robert, and after his mother's widowhood to Robert forever. Land inherited*1795She inherited land in 1795 at tract N12, Capeville, N'hamp Co, VA. In 1757 Esther Savage sold 245 aces of tract N12 to Thomas Bell. This land was west of the Moore land and extended westward along the south side of the Capeville Crossroad. In 1772 Bell left his 'lower plantation' to son Robert. In 1795 after the intestate death of Robert Bell a survey showed 275 acres and the house with 43 acres went to a daughter Betsey who later married Severn E. Nottingham. (NOTE: Whitelaw did not mention the other 232 acres, which evidently went to other children.)3

On his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows: That he enlisted in a company of Capt. Thomas Snead in the 9th Virginia Regiment on Continental Establishment commanded by Col. Thomas Flemming, that he servied the said two years and that a pension has heretofore been granted him under an Act of Congress passed on the 18th day of March 1818 the certificate of which in numbered 4,852, and that date of his original application was on the 9th day of July 1818. This his family consists of himself, a little girl named Lucreta Gray for whose services he gives her victuals and clothes, and a hired man named Henry Charnick.3,4

There was also no Richard Ayres, wife Letty, who existed at the time to have been his father.)1

Deed of Gift - Rec'd*19 August 1673He received by deed of gift on 19 August 1673 at Accomack Co, VA. William Anderson gave to John and Alexander, sons of Miles and Ann Gray, two cow calves and their increase, which would be divided when the oldest child (John) attained the age of 10 years.2 
Deed of Gift - Rec'd21 January 1678He received by deed of gift on 21 January 1678 at Accomack Co, VA. Ann Gray also deeded land to John Gray on 21 Jan 1678/8. 
Land deed named in*1685He was named in a deed in 1685. In 1683 Miles and Ann Gray sold all of tract A116 to Roger Miles, but two years later (1685) Roger and his wife Ann deeded 200 acres back to Ann Gray for life and then it was to go to her son John Gray (Whitelaw, p. 1124).

In 1694 John and Bethula Gray sold the southern half of the Ann Gray part of A116 to William Lewis (Whitelaw, p. 1127). The deed was dated 18 Mar 1693 and stated in part "John Gray, Planter, and wife Bethula sold William Lewis 100 acres in the woods between Gargaphia and Gilford." 
Will - Witnessed*6 October 1695John witnessed a will on 6 October 1695 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John "Grey," Robert Hawley and John Arue witnessed the will of Franics Wharton (Acc Co Wills &c, 1692-1715 (xi), p. 251). 
Land sold*1697He sold land in 1697 at tract A116, Gargartha, Accomack Co, VA. In 1697 John Grey and wife Bethula sold their other 100 acres to Richard Price (Whitelaw, p. 1127). The deed was dated 4 Aug 1697 and stated in part "John Gray, Planter, for 5000 lbs tobacco paid by Richard Price; 100 acres in the woods between Gargaphia and Gilford Creek, part of 200 acres granted to Roger Miles and Ann his wife, set over to Ann Gray "mother of me" by a deed dated 17 Nov 1685" (Acc Co Wills &c, 1692-1715(xi), p. 267).

John Gray was granted administration of the estate of "his mother Ann Abbot" (deceased). Mr. Robert Norton and Mr. Gervas Baggaly became security for Gray's administration. Capt. Richard Drumond, John Parker, William Hudson and Thomas Ryley were ordered to inventory and appraise the estate of Ann Abbot and report to the next court.5

To daughter Margaret tract Patirick's Folly. To wife (unnamed) land. To 3 daughters Sarah, Margaret and Rebecca. Witt: William Steward & Katharine Steward.4,7

Children of the dec'd were listed as John Jr., William, Sarah, Margarett and Rebecca Gray. Payments were made to Elizabeth (widow, her 1/3), James Allison for his wife's porton, William Owens for his wife's porton, Edward Smith for his wife's portion and William Gray (accountant). Also mentioned Margarett Smith (daughter) and Elin Gray (no relationship stated).4

Solomon Gray, of Somerset Co, MD, eldest son of Thomas Gray, who was the eldest son of John Gray, who was the eldest son of Miles Gray of Accomack Co, VA, conveyed tract Furniss' Choice to Whitty Turpin (that Miles Gray devised two tracts Furniss' Choice and Poyke to William Turpin for life and who lately died, and now possessed by Solomon Gray.)4
