Death*5 August 2016He died on 5 August 2016 at age 72. Lemuel Frank Fisher, 72, of Assawoman, VA passed away peacefully on August 5, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Nassawadox, VA on August 11, 1943 to the late Glenwood and Zepha (Conquest) Fisher. He was a member of Assawoman United Methodist Church. He was owner and operator of Judy's Flower Shop in Bloxom, VA for many years. After retiring from Judy's Flower Shop he worked for several other florist on the shore. Lemuel's customers followed his work wherever he went being known as one of the premier florists on the Shore. Lemuel is survived by his daughter, Tanya Fisher Lewis and her husband Randy of Pocomoke City, MD; three granddaughters, Brittany Lewis, Jessica Lewis, both of Pocomoke City, MD, Courtney Fisher of New Church, VA; special great-grandson, William Kevin Mann "Lil Bill" of Chincoteague Island, VA; Aunt, Peggy Stephens of Atlantic, VA; Niece, Kimberly Clark of MD; devoted friend Barbara Huffman Walker of Chincoteague Island, VA. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenwood Fisher, mother, Zepha Fisher, son, Kevin Glenn Fisher, and brother, Edward Fisher. Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016, 4:00 pm at the Assawoman United Methodist Church Cemetery, Assawoman, VA , with Rev. Maurice Enright and Pastor Bertina Westley, officiating. Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Assawoman United Methodist Church c/o Fred Ward PO Box 61, Assawoman, VA 23302. Services entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Inc. on Chincoteague Island, VA.

Biography*In her will, signed 24 Feb 1897, Sarah A. Bird left "Walnut Grove" which she heired from her mother to her unmarried or single children, but they were not named. Witnesses were John E. Mapp, Robert T. Harmon and Louis D. Drummond (Acc Co Wills, 1904-20, p. 313).

Anecdote1861 He served with the Confederate Troops in the War Between the States according to statements made by Pvt. A.J. Lilliston, Co. F. 46th VA Infantry and G.D. Scarburgh, Co. F. 46th VA Infantry.6 
Anecdote1884 He gave land for the railroad station and yards when the Pennsylvania Railroad built the New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk Division, known as the NYP&N, through the Eastern Shore peninsula in 1884. In that year he opened a large general merchandise store in the town he laid out on Mears land - a town that developed with the coming of the railroad. The town was called Edgewood at first, but the name was changed to Keller to honor one of the railroad division men.7 
Death*2 December 1896Benjamin died on 2 December 1896 at Locust Grove, Keller, Acc Co, VA, at age 63. Tombstone & Acc Co Death records both show 2 Dec 1896. According to the Acc Co Death records he died of unknown causes at the age of 65 years. he was the son of Benj. W. & Sarah J. Mears, born in Acc Co, a merchant and the husband of Emma S. Mears. His son (-----) C. Mears gave the information..3,8

Land surveyed*1838He's land was surveyed in 1838 at north of Harborton, Slutkill Neck, Accomack Co, VA. In 1772 Laban Lewis and his wife Joyce sold part of this tract to Henry Custis. Then in 1788 Henry Scarburgh IV sold two pieces of 50 and 12 acres to Custis and in 1790 Bennett and George Scarburgh sold him two pieces of 53 1/2 & 50 acres. In 1797 Henry Custis (wife Polly) left his land to his sons William and Henry, the former to have the land "lying above Doll's road" and Henry the balance. In 1821 the Henry Custis part was surveyed as 204 acres, of which he retained 25 acres and the balance was sold to Col. John Finney. In 1838 the William Custis part was surveyed as 138 acres for his heirs.10
