Birth*14 April 1865Franklin was born on 14 April 1865 at Accomack Co, VA.2,3
Marriage*16 July 1884He married Sarah Drummond 'Sadie' Lewis, daughter of Levin Drummond Lewis and Mary Ann 'Nancy' Melson, on 16 July 1884 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Franklin J. Barnes, a 20 year old merchant, born in Acc Co and living in Worcester Co, MD, the son of George W. & Evaline Barnes and she was shown as Sadie D. Lewis, age 17, the daughter of Levin D. & Anna Lewis. They were married by A.J. Walter. The Peninsual Enterprise showed that Mr. Franklin J. Barnes of Girdletree Hill, MD and Miss Sadie D. Lewis of this county were married at the M.P. Church in Leemont last Wednesday, by Rev. A.J. Walter. After the marriage a reception was given at the residence of the bride, which was a very pleasant affair. The cordial greetings of the host and hostess, the happy good humor of the numerous guests and the solid comforts so plentifully provided, made it an occasion not soon to be forgotten..1,4
Death*1 December 1954Franklin died on 1 December 1954 at age 89. Mr. Frank J. Barnes, 89, of Parksley, VA, died at the Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, VA, about 12:30 o'clock Wednesday of injuries he received when he was accidently burned very seriously in his room at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. James Middleton. He had had breakfast as usual with the family that morning and had been seen later during the morning in the yard. About 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, Wash Baker, who lives on the Middleton farm was attracted to the home by smoke coming from the quarters occupied by Mr. Barnes. Mr. and Mrs. Middleton were both away from home. Going to the house he got Mr. Barnes out of the building and put a blanket around him, most of his clothing having been burned off. He then called Mr. Middleton at his place of business and he was taken in the Parksley ambulance to the Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, for treatment. Mr. Barnes talked with members of his family and others that afternoon and the information seems to be that he spilled kerosene on the floor and on his clothes while filling his oil stove. When he attempted to light the fire, his clothing caught fire. He got in bed in attempting to smother the fire and in that way set the bed clothing on fire. He is one of the oldest residents of the county, having been born at Hunting Creek, April 15, 1865. This was the same night that President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. We have heard him tell it numbers of times. His parents were George and Evelyn Barnes. For a number of years he was engaged in the produce business on the Shore and later in New York, where he was employed by J.W. Hutchinson. He returned to the Easter Shore about 1920 and had been engaged in the mercantile business until about 15 months ago. Funeral services will be held at Parksley Funeral Home Friday, December 3rd at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in Liberty Cemetery. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. James Middleton, three sons, Messrs. Clifford L. Barnes of Norfolk, Fletcher Barnes of Newport News, and Brooks Barnes of Praksley, and several grandchildren..2,5
Burial*His body was interred at Liberty Cem, Parksley, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Frank J. Barnes, husband of Sarah D. Barnes, 14 Apr 1865 - 1 Dec 1954..2

Birth*13 January 1925Patrick was born on 13 January 1925 at Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA.
Death*15 February 2013He died on 15 February 2013 at Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 88. Patrick Dunton Widgen passed away suddenly at his home in Nassawadox at the age of 88 on Friday, Feb. 15. He was born on Jan. 13, 1925 in Nassawadox. He was the third of four children born to Kate Dunton Widgen and Walter Bailey Widgen. He was known to many as Cap’t Pat. Pat graduated from Eastville High School in 1942, and spent the fall semester of 1942 at Virginia Tech, but a bout of homesickness brought him back to the home he loved. However, the draft would call him away less than a year later. He served two years in the Army Air Corps in World War II in the Pacific Theater. After leaving the service he returned to Blacksburg and completed his bachelors in building construction in 1949. After graduating he worked as a general contractor for more than 40 years, constructing buildings up and down the shore from Capeville to Princess Anne, and took ownership of Northampton Lumber Company in 1982. He was a deacon and lifelong member at Red Bank Baptist Church. In recent years he enjoyed spending his summers gardening, reading and spending time with his family. Other than his short stint in the service and his time away at college he lived his entire life in Nassawadox, the town he loved. He was predeceased by his wife Hetty Rai Widgen, his sister Betty Bell Phillips and brother W. B. “Shorty” Widgen. He is survived by his second wife Virginia Barnes Widgen, his brother, John Widgen, three daughters, Nancey Woodson (Doug), Kate Barban (Kimmy), and Tricia Casella (Vince), two-step children Mary Kerr Tatum (Benny) and Mike Barnes (Becky), two grandchildren Sarah Barban and Josh Barban, and three step-grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, and Troy Woodson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 2 pm at Red Bank Baptist Church in Marionville, Virginia. Interment will follow at the Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery.
