Birth*circa 1674Woney was born circa 1674 at Accomack Co, VA.1
Will - Father's*18 January 1689Woney was named in his father's will on 18 January 1689 at tract A109, Guilford-Parksley, Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son Wony in the will of John Arew. He was given 116 acres on the southern side of my seat.1,2
Marriage*circa 1698He married Comfort Gelding, daughter of Charles Gelding, circa 1698.3,4
Will - Witnessed*1 October 1700Woney witnessed a will on 1 October 1700 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Wonne Rue, Nathaniel Capell & Hannah Capell witnessed the will of Thomas Stratton, single person.5
Court - defendant*6 April 1709He was a defendant in a court case on 6 April 1709 at Accomack Co, VA. The action of debt brought by Andrew Hamilton against Woney Rew of Northampton County was referred to the next court.6
Will - Brother's*28 February 1710/11Woney was named in his brother's will on 28 February 1710/11 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as brother Wony Rew in the will of John Rew, wife Leshe.7
Marriage*circa 1725He married Comfort (-----) circa 1725.8
Will*7 January 1760He made a will on 7 January 1760 at Accomack Co, VA. To wife Comfort whole estate during her widowhood. Daughter Elizabeth Rew. To sons Wonny and Absalom Rew all my lands, Wonny to have plantation where I now live and he lives on. Son Ruben Rew. Balance of estate to wife during her widowhood, and then to one or all of my children as she shall think proper. Wife Executrix. Witnesses were William Young, George Hope Ewell, George Middleton and John Lewis..9,10
Death*before 26 January 1763Woney died before 26 January 1763 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated..10
Land left*1763He left land in 1763 at tract A109, Guilford-Parksley, Acc Co, VA. Wonney Rew (wife Comfort) left his land to this sons Wonney and Absalom. At the probate of his will, there was an entry that the citation against Beverley Rew, the heir-at-law, was returned, as he was not found. It is quite possible that this name was in error for Southey Rew: he had been one of the Accomack justices and also served a term as sheriff, but shortly before the middle of the century he disappeared from the Shore. He went to North Carolina, where he became a substantial planter, and a son Solomon became clerk of New Bern County.2

Anecdote*15 February 1853 On 15 Feb 1853 Spencer Lewis of Accomack Co., age ca. 90 years, who (claimed to have) served in the Rev. War, said that he was acquainted with Thomas Nelson who was one of the militiamen in the Rev. War and has been considered to be 100 years old. Rev. George H. Ewell, age 73, certifities that he understood from his father who served in the War, and many others, that said Thomas Nelson was on of the militia of Accomack and served in the Rev. War and has no doubt that Nelson is over 100 years of age. Recorded 28 Feb 1853.6
Rev War Pension app*19 April 1853He applied for a pension for service in the Rev. War on 19 April 1853 at Accomack Co, VA. Spencer Lewis, "about ninety years of age" of Accomack County, VA, being too old and infirm to appear in open court, personally appeared before Littleton A. Hinman, Justice of the Peace, stating he has no record of his age but believes he is about ninety years old; "he knows there was but little difference between himself and his brother Thomas Lewis, who has received a pension for his revolutionary Services." Deponent desires pension benefits under the Act of June 7, 1832, and declares he entered the Virginia Militia in the year 1778 in the County of Accomack; and continued in service to the end of the war, under the following named officers: first, under the command of Captain William Drummond and Colonel Thomas Snead, and others who he has forgotten. He remembers he served "a large portion of three or four years, at a place called "Willets Hill" under the command of Wm. Drummond at a place called Pies Field, and at other places under other captains of the militia in Accomack County." He further states he thinks he served more than two years in the Revolutionary War, but knows of no one who can verify his services, "as his brother and all those who served with him are dead." He states he was well acquainted in the war with Colonel John Cropper, Colonel Southy Simpson, Colonel Levin Joynes, Colonel Parker and Colonel Snead of Accomack; that until recently he has been able to support himself, but affliction and misfortune have caused him to claim a pension for his Revolutionary War services: that he was well acquainted with Custis Bull, Robert Chase, Horsey Sumers, Richard Sumers "and the rest of the Militia soldiers in said war." Signed: Spencer (his X mark) Lewis. On the same date George H. Ewell, a clergyman of Accomack County and John Parker (or Parkes) of the same county, testify that they are well acquainted with Spencer Lewis and that he is reputed and believed in the neighborhood to have served in the Revolutionary War. Also on April 19, 1853, Henry Marshall of Accomack County, Va., aged 82 years, deposeth that he is the son of Sampon Marshall, who was one of the Militia of Accomack County in the Revolutionary War, and who died before the pension act; "that he has frequently heard his father and Samuel Marshall who was a Revolutionary pensioner and Absalom Lewis of said county frequently say that Spencer Lewis was one of the Accomack Militia and served on duty with them in the Revolutionary War and also many others." Henry Marshall further states that, although a boy, he recollects the war, and the time his father was on guard; of seeing the shipping and the barges near where he then resided; that he and the community in general have regarded Spencer Lewis as a Revolutionary Soldier; that his brother Thomas Lewis, who served with him has drawn his pension, and that Spencer Lewis and Tom were nearly the same age and served together, as he always understood. Deposition signed by mark before Littleton A. Hinman, Justice of the Peace, who attests to Marshall's credibility. Also on April 19, 1853, Robert Chase, a Revolutionary War pensioner, in behalf of Spencer Lewis, states that although he and said Spencer Lewis lived in the same community, they did not serve together during the Revolutionary War, but he has always understood Spencer Lewis was one of the Accomack Militia in the Revolutionary War, who served as a guard and performed about the same duty as himself. He further states that Spencer Lewis' brother Thomas Lewis, has received pension for his services as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. His affidavit is also signed by his mark before Justice of the Peace Hinman. Pension file contains a document dated "13 July 53" to Commissioner of Pensions from V__?__ Ellis, attorney for Spencer Lewis, in which he transmits Lewis' application for pension benefits under the Act of June 7, 1832, together with depositions of Robert Chase and Henry Marshall. In this letter, attorney Ellis points out that the Accomack County, Virginia Militia "stand on a different footing from those who resided in other parts of Virginia. See cases for Custis Bull, Bowdoin Snead, Robert Chase, David Watts ___?___ (word is illegible - alv) from the same County." Mr. Ellis also cites the Pension Commissioner to the pension laws, stating that references will be found in Custis Bull's file. The file also contains a small document with Spencer Lewis' name, No. 9978 and the word "Rejected" stamped thereon. No other data appear in this file.
