Anecdote*circa 1872 He was noted as a hustler and for thrift, which qualities apparently were inherited by his children and many of their descendants. He followed the water and also farmed, in 1872 having purchaese from John R. Sparrow, of Hacks Neck, a 40-acre tract on Butcher Creek, know as 'Cherry Point,' the family residence being on the portion now owned by John F. Bennett (1934).4

Anecdote*circa 1882 He spent the major portion of his adult life operating fish traps, with farming as a side line. He lived on this farm on the south shore of Pungoteague Creek, at the northeast side of Martin's Road, or "Cedar Lane," as it is sometimes called.1 
Death*27 March 1940Benjamin died on 27 March 1940 at age 77.2
