Land cause*30 March 1821He was named in a land cause on 30 March 1821 at Folly Creek, Accomack Co, VA. A suit was brought by William Mears and wife Bridget against the surviving children of Bagwell Bull, saying that Nancy Bull, who owned 18 acres on Folly Creek, had died intestate in 1821, underage and unmarried. Her land was divided between Bridget Mears, William Bull, James Bull, and the children of a dec'd sister, Mary Chandler, who were named as Bagwell Chandler and Mary Chandler.3,4 
Rev War Vet relative*27 December 1830He was shown to be related to a Rev War veteran on 27 December 1830 at Accomack Co, VA. Thomas Chandler, a lieut. in the Virginia Navy at the time of his death, left Mitchel Chandler his eldest brother, Laban Chandler and Littleton Chandler younger brothers and Catharine Chandler his sister then his only heirs at law. The said Littleton Chanlder is now living. Sarah P. Burton, wife of John B. Burton is the only heir at law of the said Catherine Chandler, now dec'd. Mitchell Chandler, Thomas Chandler, Rosey Fitzgerald, Patience Harvey, Amelia Snead, wife of John Snead, Elizabeth U. Chandler and Amey Chandler, are the heirs at law of said Mitchel Chandler. Bagwell Chandler and Mary Chandler are the heirs at law of Laban Chandler who was a son of Laban Chandler dec'd, and Elizabeth, John, Josiah, Tabitha and Euphamia Chandler are the only heirs at law of Elisha Chandler, a son of said Laban Chandler the elder.5

Custis on the other side. Signed: Bagwell (his X mark) Chandler and Ann (her X mark) Chandler. Levin S. Joynes Jr. & Nath'l Topping, Justices of the Peace, swore that Bagwell & Ann Chandler appeared before them and acknowledged this to be their act and deed.8 
Land bought*21 January 1836He bought land on 21 January 1836 at Matchatank Creek, Accomack Co, VA. Elisha Crockett and his wife Catharine sells land near Matchatank in Accomack County containing by estimation from 10 to 12 acres for $200 to Bagwell Chandler. Bounded on the North by lands of Edward Killmon and Zorobabel Paul, on the South by lands of Joseph Crockett and by Matchatank Creek, on the West by lands of said Joseph Crockett, on the East by a ditch leading from a water hole called the Devil's Woodyard to Matchatank Creek and a line running through said water hole from the point where said ditch commences straight with said ditch to lands of the aforesaid Edward Killmon. Signed: Elisha (his X mark) Crockett and Catharine (her X mark) Crockett. John Finney and Levin S. Joynes Jr., Justices of the Peace, swore that Elisha Crockett and his wife Catharine appeared before them and acknowledged this to be their act and deed.9

Land bought15 December 1859He bought land on 15 December 1859 at Slutkill Neck, St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA. Isaac Moore and his wife Lucy A. Moore sells 30 acres of land for $975 to Bagwell Chandler, which located in Sluthkill Neck, bounded on the North by Joseph P. Boggs and James Drummond Senr, on the East by Margaret Smith, on the South by James H. Harrison & Margaret Joynes, and on the West by Margaret Smith. Signed: Isaac Moore and Lucy A. Moore. Witt: William Moore for J. Moore and Tully A.T. Joynes.11

Chandler and his wife Emily S., of St. George Parish, sells 2 acres of land in St. George Parish for $100 to Bagwell Chandler of St. George Parish. The land was in Doll Swamp, bounded on the North & East by John W. Chandler, on the South by the heirs of John R. Boggs dec'd and on the West by Thomas Crockett.13 
Land bought26 October 1868He bought land on 26 October 1868 at Matchatank Creek, St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA. Henry Drummond Senr and his wife Margaret sold 3 acres of land for $100 to Bagwell Chandler. It was bounded on the South & West by Matchatank Creek and the deed called for a ditch.14 
Census head*1870Bagwell was listed as a head of household in the census of 1870 at Locust Mount P.O., St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA. HH#763 was headed by Bagwell Chandler, age 50 and farming, with real estate valued at $3,000. Listed with him were Nancy Chandler, age 50; Lybrius Killman, a 24 year old sailor; and Susan Killman, age 22.15 
Deed of Separation*13 March 1873He was named in deed of separation on 13 March 1873 at Accomack Co, VA. Bagwell Chandler was named trustee for Michael C. Mears & his wife Mary. There was a dispute between Michael C. Mears and his wife Mary and there were 2 full pages of details.16

Listed with him were Nancy Chandler, age 75, born in MD, her father's birth place was shown as MD and her mother's birth place was shown as MD; and T.F. Harrison, a 15 year old granddaughter, born in VA.18 
Will*15 October 1891Bagwell made a will on 15 October 1891 at Accomack Co, VA. In his will Bagwell Chandler directed his executor to sell my parcel of land in Doll Swamp, 8 acres, and the proceeds to be added to my personal estate. To my son Thomas R. Chandler his indebtedness to me. To daughter Margaret A. Harrison, wife of James E. Harrison the whole of my farm in Kill Neck, 30 acres. To daughter Susan M. Killman, wife of Lybrand J. Killman, $900. The residue to my aforesaid children. Exec. Henry R. Boggs. 15 Oct 1891. Wit: Geo. W. Addison, Chas. A. Rew, Levi R. Boggs. Proved 29 Jun 1896. Sureties Levi R. Boggs, Charles P. Finney, Spencer F. Rogers.19 
Death*21 June 1896Bagwell died on 21 June 1896 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 84. The tombstone book shows him as Capt. Bagwell Chandler, the husband of Nancy, 28 Oct 1811 - 21 June 1896; age: 84/7/24. Walczyk's Accomack Co Death Register shows him as Bagwell Chandler, who died 24 Jun 1896 of old age at the age of 85 years, the son of Edw.(sic) & Mary. His son Thos. R. Chandler gave the information. (NOTE: This info conflicts with an 1817 division of land and 1821 land cause showing Bagwell Chandler as a son of Laban Chandler and his wife Mary, who was a daughter of Bagwell Bull, and an 1830 court record showing Bagwell Chandler and his sister Mary Chandler as the heirs at law of Laban Chandler who was a son of Laban Chandler dec'd, a brother of Lt Thomas Chandler, a soldier in the Rev War. It should also be noted that the Edward Chandler referred to by Thos. R. Chandler was probably the one referred to in the records as Edward B. Chandler, who was only 7 years older then Bagwell Chandler and could not have been his father.)2,20

Biography*1825John Killmon is not listed in the 1850 Acc Co census, but is listed as the head of the 1860 Acc Parish HH#600, with a wife, Virginia, and Alfred J. Killmon, aged 12. John was listed as a sailor and perhaps this explains why he was not listed in the 1850 census. Evidently, John and Virginia had no children of their own, but raised his brother Samuel's son, Alfred. There is no direct proof that John was the son of John Henry Killmon and Nancy Parkes, but the fact that he raised Samuel's son Alfred.

He had been in failing health for some time, but was only confined to his bed for a few days. He was a humble gentleman, well-known in his neighborhood, and highly respected. Funeral services were held at his home, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by his former pastor, Rev. W. H. Fletcher of Cherition, assisted by Rev. Richard Lloyd, and burial was made in Onancock Cemetery. Surviving him are 7 children: Messrs. Thomas W., Upshur H., Andrew Lee Crosley, Mrs. Mamie Richardson, Misses Lillian, Lottie and Catherine Crosley and 3 brothers..3,2
