Byrd died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Austin Mason, at Mears, on 25 Mar 1950, aged 85 years. He was a member of the the Shilo Baptist Church and was buried at Bloxom Cemetery. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 31 Mar 1950).
