Mr. Lee Marshall of Saxis died on 29 Jun 1935, aged 42 years, interment was in the Ellis Cemetery, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 13 Jul 1935). He died at Saxis. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fulcher at the Saxis Methodist Church with burial in the Ellis Cemetery, Saxis. Survivors included a wife, mother, one son, 2 sisters and 5 brothers, all of who were listed (E.S. News, 29 Jun 1935).

He was a US Army verteran of the WWII European Theatre and was a member of the Eastern Shore Chapter #51 DAV and a life member of DAV. He is survived by a son Alfred Lee Marshall of Saxis.

Marshall is the son of Mrs. Harvey Drewer and the late Carroll Marshall of Saxis, VA. He was inducted into the service 5 Aug 1942 (Pen. Ent., 14 Jan 1944). A poem written by his mother was included in the article. 
Death*2 July 2002Edgar died on 2 July 2002 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 81. E. Allen Marshall, age 81, husband of Pauline Wessells and a resident of Saxis, died at his residence on Tuesday, July 2, 2002. Born at Saxis, Mr. Marshall was the son of the late Carroll Marshall and Naomi Spence Marshall. He was a retired well driller and founder of the Wayside Mission Church at Saxis. He also was a WWII Army veteran. Other than his wife, Mr. Marshall was survived by a daughter Maxime McCready of Saxis; two sons, Darrell Marshall of Saxis and Michael Marshall of Wakefield, Mass; a brother Carroll Marshall of Sanford; and three grandchildren, Christy McCready, Ryan McCready and Travis Marshall..4

Randall “Craig” Martin, 59, of Saxis, husband of Patty Martin, died Monday, September 26th at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born on April 4, 1957 in Nassawadox, VA, he was the son of the late Randall Eugene Martin and Peggy Ann Linton Martin. Craig was a waterman and owned Robin Hood Bay Seafood, alongside his brother, Hance. He was also a carpenter and roofer and was known as “a jack of all trades”. Other than his loving wife, Craig is survived by two daughters, Jamie Martin and husband, Nick of Saxis and Brittney Martin and Charles Galloway of Greenbush; a brother, Hance Martin and wife, Ramona of Mears; and several nieces, nephews, friends and family. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Marshall and a brother, Tony Cameron Martin. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 2nd, at 2:00 PM from the Saxis United Methodist Church in Saxis, VA with Rev. Robert Daniels officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saxis Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, P.O. Box 98, Saxis, VA 23427. Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.

Menzetta is survived by a son, Jack Barry McCready, Jr. and wife, Cheryl Bloxom McCready of Wallops Island; two grandchildren, Colby Jason McCready of Waynesboro, VA and Shaun Patrick McCready and wife, Leigh Trayers McCready of Springfield, VA; and her great-granddaughters, Charlotte Grace and Clara Joy McCready of Troy, VA. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jack Barry McCready, Sr. of Saxis. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 2nd at 2:00 PM from the graveside of the John W. Taylor Cemetery in Temperanceville, VA with Pastor Freddie Ward officiating.2

During WWII he was in Germany, France and Normandy and served for 2 years. He was a tank driver and was with General Patton, but she didn't say he was Patton's personal tank driver. After his last battle he was wounded and left in his tank for 2 weeks before they found him. He was sent back to a hospital in Richmond, VA to recover. He was awarded the Purple Star. He was mentioned in a book by Ernie Pyle, which was loaned to someone on Saxis who never returned it and now they can't find it.

John William Thornes, 85, a resident of Saxis, passed away at Riverside Memorial Hospital on Monday, 24 Jan 2011. Born in Guilford, he was the son of the late John Tillery Thornes and Mary Anna Wessells Thornes. He served in the United States Army and was a waterman for many years. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Linton Thornes; a son William Rew Thornes; and a brother, Ira James Thornes. He is survived by his children, two sons, Johnny Wayne Thornes and his wife Rose of Sanford and Tony James Thornes and his wife Kim, of Sanford; two daughters, Mary Ann Miller of Saxis and Terri Lewis and her husband Jim of Saxis; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held on Thursday, 27 Jan at 2 p.m. at Evans Cemetery, Saxis, with the Rev. Freddie Ward officiating.4,2

Mr. Martin Carroll Linton, Sr., 64 of Saxis, Virginia, husband of Joyce Ann Linton, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at Riverside-Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. Born May 26, 1945 at Saxis, he was the son of the late Verness Linton and the late Lena W. Martin Linton. Mr. Linton was a waterman and member of the Saxis Wesleyan - Holiness Church. Other than his wife he is survived by a son, Martin Carroll Linton, Jr of Pocomoke, a sister, Wanda Dorene Linton of Saxis, a brother, Barry Linton of Saxis,and three grandchildren; Siara, Sidney and Seth Linton all of Pocomoke. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 10, at 2:00 PM at the Saxis Wesleyan -Holiness Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Groton's Cemetery in Hallwood, VA. Funeral arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.

Wanda is survived by her brother, Barry Linton and wife, Linda of Saxis; a sister-in-law, Joyce Linton of Saxis; six nieces and nephews, Beverly Hart and husband, David of Saxis, Andy Linton and wife, Holly of Saxis, Martin Linton, Jr. and his wife, Allison of Pocomoke City, MD, Dwayne Marshall, Dora Marshall and Wayne Marshall; and seven great nieces and nephews, Dave, Danny and Ethan Hart, Drew Linton and Sierra, Sydney and Seth Linton. Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin Carroll Linton, Sr. and Ronnie Marshall; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Marshall.
