Lois Anne was a barber on Chincoteague for many years and was a devoted member of Zion Baptist Church. Other than her husband, Franklin, Lois Anne is survived by a daughter, Jo Anne DeBusk and husband, Mac of Glade Spring, VA; two brothers, Andrew Linton of Chincoteague and Allen Linton of Newville, PA; one granddaughter, Jasper Linton Joy DeBusk; two nieces, Andi-Kay Tyler and husband, Lloyd and Christina Linton; a nephew, Landon Tyler; and sister-in-law, Brenda Linton. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM from Zion Baptist Church in Parksley, VA with Rev. Andrew Matthews officiating. A time for visitation and fellowship will follow the service in the social hall. (Thornton Funeral Home.)

Death*6 September 2015Franklin Dalby Young died on 6 September 2015. Franklin D. Young, age 65, of Parksley, Virginia, husband of the late Lois Anne Young, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the home of his daughter, Jo in Glade Spring, Virginia. He was born in Nassawadox, Virginia and was the son of the late Ralph and Rhoda Young. Franklin was a retired Police Officer from the Chincoteague Police Department and most recently, the Accomack County Sheriff's Office. He was also the owner, along with his father, of the former well-known Young's Meat Barn in Parksley. Franklin was an outdoor enthusiast who loved the sports of hunting and shooting. He was a licensed airplane pilot and amateur radio operator. Franklin was also a board member of the Francis Makemie Society. He was an active member of Zion Baptist Church in Parksley and also a member of the Rhoda D. Young Sunday School Class named in memory of his dear mother. He is survived by his daughter, Jo Anne DeBusk and her husband, Mac, of Glade Spring, Virginia; one sister, Connie Young Webster and her husband, John, of Hopewell, Virginia; one granddaughter, Jasper Linton Joy DeBusk; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, September 20, at 2:00 PM at the Zion Baptist Church, at the corner of Route 13 - Lankford Hwy. and Metompkin Road. The Rev. Andrew Matthews will officiate. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow at the church social hall.

Ewell, and also I give to my son Charles Parkes the piece of land I purchased of B.B. Ewell and one chest which he claims to him and his heirs forever. SIXTH. I give to my son Edward Parkes the land which I purchased of Ephram Wessel of B. and which my son Edward Parkes now resided upon to him and his heirs forever and bind my son E. Parkes to pay to my grand daughter Armenday Parkes on hundred dollars. SEVENTH. I give to my daughter Elender Ewell the tract of land I purchased of Sam Killman and also the piece of land I purchased of Isaac Wessels to her and her heirs forever. EIGHTH. I give to my daughter Tabitha J. Grinnalds my tract of land which I purchased of John Ewell and also the balance of the land which I purchased of Ephran of N., which is not given away, and also I give to her all the property of mine that she has in her possession at this time, to her and her heirs forever and I bind my daughter Tabither J. Grinnalds to pay to my daughter Elendor Ewell one hundred and fifty dollars. NINTH. I give to my daughter Elendor Ewell one bed tent. I give to my grand daughter Eveline Taylor one hundred dollars to her and her heirs forever. SEVENTH.(sic) I give to my three daughters Comfort Parkes, Margaret Ann Lewis and Mariah Parkes all of my Notes Bonds Property and Money which I have not given away to them three to be equal divided, to them and their heirs forever. I appoint my son Parker W. Parkes my executor. In testimony whereof, I, the said John Parkes Sr. have to this my last will and testament signed and subscribed my name this Eighth day Sept in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty five. Signed: John Parks. Witt: B.B. Ewell & Jno. R. Bowdoin. At a Circuit Court held for the County of Accomack on the 2nd day of May 1870, this last will and testament of John Parkes Senr, deceased, was proved by the oaths of Burwell B. Ewell and John R. Bowdoin, witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Parker W. Parkes, the Executor therein named, who made oath as the law directs, and together with Levin D. Lewis, John R. Johnson, Thomas P. Lewis and John R. Hinman his sureties, entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of six thousand dollars ($6,000), conditioned according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form and it is ordered that the said bond be recorded. Test: M. Oldham, Deputy, for Wm. H.B. Custis, Clerk of Court.5

She was a most estimable Christian lady of many kindly traits of character and was held in high regard by a large circle of friends. She is survived by five children, besides her husband and several sisters and brothers. Services were held over her remains in the M.P. Church here by Rev. W.B. Judefind and interment was made in the family burying ground near this place (Parksley)..2,4
